摘要: Method for mapping capped cylindrical environments. The method uses an algorithm for creating an environment map through 3D data segmentation and fitting of right planar capped cylinders. The algorithm implementing the method of the invention offers improved robustness, accuracy and speed over existing segmentation and fitting methods. The improved properties of the invention are achieved through the use of a Gauss map, 3D histogram and shape knowledge driven segmentation. Performance was demonstrated on a variety of cylinders using simulated data.

摘要: A flexure-based micro-array having a plurality of micro-assemblies, each comprising: an object; and at least three electrostatic actuation modules for tipping, tilting, and/or piston-actuating the object, each actuation module comprising: a base with first and second electrodes electrically isolated from each other; an electrically conductive lever arm; a first flexure bearing suspending the lever arm adjacent the first and second electrodes so that electrical activation of at least one of the first and second electrodes produces an electrostatic moment of force on the lever arm to resiliently bias the first flexure bearing and pivot the lever arm about a fulcrum; and a second flexure bearing connecting the lever arm to the object at a connection location that is different from other connection locations of the other actuation modules so that pivoting the lever arm about the fulcrum induces the second flexure bearing to pivot the object about an object pivot axis defined between two of the other connection locations while the second flexure bearing decouples the lever arm from object displacements induced by two of the other actuation modules connected to the two other connection locations defining the object pivot axis, wherein the plurality of micro-assemblies are arranged with the objects juxtaposed in a substantially 2D array.

摘要: Autostereoscopic display. The display includes an array of elements from which light emanates, the elements being rotatable about two orthogonal axes by microcontrollers. An eye tracker is provided for determining the location in three dimensions of at least one eye viewing the array. The microcontrollers, using information from the eye tracker, rotate the elements to mimic a concave surface to deliver light to the eye. It is preferred that the elements are mirrors and the display further includes a projector for projecting an image on the array for reflection to the eye. The elements themselves may include means for generating light rather than reflecting light.

摘要: This invention relates to a microelectromechanical device for mechanical characterization of a specimen. In one embodiment the device may incorporate a substrate, at least one first flexure bearing and at least one second flexure bearing, both being supported on the substrate. First and second movable shuttles may be used which are supported above the substrate by the flexure bearings so that each is free to move linearly relative to the substrate. Ends of the movable shuttles are separated by a gap. A thermal actuator may be connected to one end of the first movable shuttle, and operates to cause the first movable shuttle to move in a direction parallel to the surface of the substrate in response to a signal applied to the thermal actuator. A first capacitive sensor may be formed between the first movable shuttle and the substrate, and a second capacitive sensor formed between the second movable shuttle and the substrate.

摘要: An orbital computation engine is used to provide ancillary computational data processing on an orbital vehicle and is mounted to or integral with the orbital vehicle. A computation circuit receives power from the orbital vehicle and is responsive to power availability from the orbital vehicle to selectively withdraw power for data processing from the orbital vehicle. A communication circuit provides communication with a terrestrial source, and may be a discrete circuit or integrated with the host satellite's communication system. The computation engine withdraws power for data processing from the orbital vehicle and provides the orbital computation engine with available power for ancillary computational data processing from the orbital computation engine's native power supply.

摘要: The present disclosure is directed to various mechanical logic gates. In one example a mechanical logic NOT gate system is formed which has a first pair of bi-stable buckling structures each being operatively connected at a first connection point thereof to one another, and also to a first rigid structure at second connection points, the first rigid structure being held stationary. A second pair of bi-stable buckling flexures is each operatively connected at first connection points thereof to each other and at second connection points thereof to a second rigid structure being held stationary. An output element is coupled a first one of each of the first and second pairs of bi-stable buckling structures. An input element is coupled to a second one of each of the first and second pairs of bi-stable buckling structures. The output element moves from a logic 1 position to a logic 0 position in response to movement of the input element from a logic 0 position to a logic 1 positions, respectively.
