    Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for the cleaning of a circumferentially closed canal by means of a light guide conducting a laser beam, wherein the entry of the laser beam into the light guide is interrupted when the free end of the light guide is outside of the canal and/or the movement of the light guide within the canal is monitored and if there is no movement or the movement is below a first threshold value then a signal is triggered and/or the laser radiation is turned off or its output is reduced, and wherein the turning off of the laser radiation or its reducing is controlled in dependency of at least one signal change and/or a second threshold and/or a signal change relative to the second threshold determined during at least one course of time starting before and including the entry of the light guide into the canal.

    Abstract: A dental probe for determining the vitality of a tooth, comprising a light emitter and a light receiver, wherein the light emitter emits light from an emitter surface adapted to be positioned on a hard dental surface of a tooth, wherein the light receiver collects light incident on a receiver surface adapted to be positioned on a hard dental surface of the tooth so that the optical path of the light emitted from the light emitter passes at least through a portion of the pulp chamber of the tooth. The light receiver includes a light shielding spacer member adjacent to the optical path for establishing and maintaining a distance of at least 50 μm between the gum line and the optical path at the receiver surface. The light emitter further a light shielding spacer member adjacent to the optical path for establishing and maintaining a distance between the gum line and the optical path at the emitter surface, wherein the light shielding spacer member establishes and maintains a distance of at least 50 μm between the gum line and the optical path at the emitter surface, and in that an apical-coronal diameter of the light emitter surface and the light receiver surface is at most 1200 μm in the direction normal to the optical path.

    Abstract: Light is projected from a light source in a first direction towards a tooth. The light source generates at least infrared light in the wavelength range of 950 nm to 2500 nm. A colloidal quantum dot (CQD) sensor records one or more surface light distribution images produced at the surface of the tooth by the projected light and the one or more surface light distribution images are used to compute a defect condition of the tooth.
