Abstract: An article useful as a forming and cutting tool for molding composite material and cutting non-planar edges of molded composite material. The article includes an upper and lower die. The upper die includes an upper pressure pad with an upper shearing edge and an upper mold with a cavity. The lower die includes a lower pressure pad and a lower mold with a core and a lower shearing edge. The upper die is adapted to come into contact with the lower die so that the upper pressure pad and upper mold apply pressure to the lower pressure pad and lower mold to form a composite material blank into a formed composite structure. The upper die is adapted to contact the lower die so that the upper shearing edge bypasses the lower shearing edge to form a non-planar cut in at least a portion of a formed composite.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a flexible container. In an embodiment, the flexible container includes a first multilayer film and a second multilayer film. Each multilayer film comprises an inner seal layer. The multilayer films are arranged such that the seal layers oppose each other and the second multilayer film is superimposed on the first multilayer film. The multilayer films are sealed along a common peripheral edge. The flexible container includes an orifice in one of the multilayer films, and a pop-up spout extends through the orifice. The pop-up spout has a flange sealed to the multilayer film around the orifice. The pop-up spout comprises an ethylene/α-olefin multi-block copolymer.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a die assembly for producing a microcapillary film. The die assembly includes a first die plate, a second die plate, a plurality of multi-jackbolt tensioners connecting the first die plate to the second die plate, a manifold, and a plurality of nozzles. The manifold is located between the pair of die plates and defines a plurality of film channels therebetween. The plurality of film channels converge into an elongate outlet, wherein a thermoplastic material is extrudable through the plurality of film channels and the elongate outlet to form a microcapillary film. The plurality of nozzles are located between the plurality of film channels. The plurality of nozzles are operatively connected to a source of channel fluid for emitting the channel fluid between layers of the microcapillary film, whereby a plurality of microcapillary channels are formed in the microcapillary film.

Abstract: Polymeric coatings comprising microcapillary structures are applied to a wire or optic fiber using a wire coating apparatus comprising a die (13) assembly comprising a mandrel assembly (16) comprising: (A) a housing (12) comprising: (1) a housing (12) wire tubular channel extending along (a) the length of the housing (12), and (b) the longitudinal centerline axis of the housing (12); (2) a fluid annular channel encircling the wire tubular channel; (3) a fluid ring (28) in fluid communication with the fluid annular channel, the fluid ring (28) positioned at one end of the housing (12); and (B) a cone-shaped tip having a wide end and a narrow end, the wide end of the tip attached to the end of the housing (12) at which the fluid ring (28) is positioned, the tip comprising: (1) a tip wire tubular channel extending along (a) the length of the tip, and (b) the longitudinal centerline axis of the tip; (2) a tip fluid channel (27) in fluid communication with the fluid ring (28); and (3) one or more nozzles (29A) in fluid communication with the tip fluid channel (27), the nozzles (29A) located at the end and extending beyond the narrow end of the tip; the housing (12) wire tubular channel and the tip wire tubular channel in open communication with one another such that a wire can pass from one to the other in a straight line and without interruption.
