摘要: A distributed telecommunications switching system (100) is disclosed. The system includes a controller (140) that generates and transmits a cell stream with a plurality of reserved cells. A first switching subsystem (104) in communication with the controller (140) receives the cell stream and a first plurality of cells. The first switching subsystem (104) identifies the reserved cells in the cell stream and replaces selected ones of the reserved cells with selected ones of the first plurality of cells to produce a modified cell stream. The modified cell stream is transmitted to a second switching subsystem (102).

摘要: In one embodiment, a first device for communicating over a digital-subscriber-line (DSL) line comprises a digital-subscriber-line transceiver to transmit and receive data over the DSL link. A set of one or more performance parameters are associated with the DSL link by which the quality of the DSL link can be determined. The first device further comprises a controller coupled to the digital-subscriber-line transceiver. The controller causes a non-intrusive transmitter adjustment operation to be performed by the digital-subscriber-line transceiver.

摘要: A distributed telecommunications switching subsystem (100) receives and distributes data packets passed between a plurality of switching subsystems or channel banks (102, 104, 106) and a data packet switch (110). Each channel bank (102) has a stored list of addresses. When a channel bank (102) receives a data packet, it compares the address of the data packet to its stored list of addresses, and transmits the data packet to another channel bank (104) if the address of the data packet does not correspond to any of the addresses in its stored list of addresses. The data packet is passed on until it reaches a channel bank (106) with a matching address or else it is appropriately handled by a last channel bank (106) in the chain. If the address of data packet matches an address in its stored list of addresses, the channel bank (102) passes the data packet through a subscriber interface card (120) to a customer premises equipment unit (108) corresponding to the address of the data packet.

摘要: A multiple user access network (10) includes a master network element device (12) and multiple slave network termination devices (14a-14n). The network element device (12) couples to the multiple network termination devices (14a-14n) in a multi-user network interface (MUNI) topology by a shared media link (16). Each network termination device (14a-14n) is assigned its own unique group ID address (38) by the master network element device (12). The network element device (12) sends MUNI asynchronous transfer mode cells (30, 32) to appropriate network termination devices (14a-14n) over shared media link (16). The group ID (38) field is also defined to allow for the network element device (12) to broadcast asynchronous transfer mode cells to all the network termination devices (14a-14n). Each network termination device (14a-14n) identifies MUNI asynchronous transfer mode cells (30, 32) with its unique group ID (38) for processing and ignores those MUNI asynchronous transfer mode cells (30, 32) that do not contain an appropriate group ID (38). The master network element device (12) performs traffic shaping and user parameter control functions per group to facilitate downstream quality of service guarantee per network termination device.

摘要: A distributed telecommunications switching system (100) is disclosed. The system includes a controller (118) in a first switching system (102). The control signal is transmitted to one or more intermediate switching system (104) and a terminating switching system (106) that generates and transmits a control signal which carries a plurality of credit allowance values. The intermediate switching system (104) receives the control signal and transmits data packets to the first switching system (102) in response to a first credit allowance value. The terminating switching system (106) receives the control signal and transmits data packets to the first switching system (102) in response to a second credit allowance value. The first switching system (102) transmits data packets from the intermediate switching system (104) and the terminating switching system (106) along with its own data packets according to its credit value to a data packet switch (110).

摘要: Methods for bit-level control of dynamic bandwidth allocation are adapted for use in multi-node channelized transport systems. A single status bit is used to indicate the desired allocation status of each transport channel for which dynamic allocation is permitted or desired. The status bit has a first logic level indicative of a desire to have a first allocation status, such as allocated for data traffic, and a second logic level indicative of a desire to have a second allocation status, such as allocated for voice traffic. The status bit may be repeated multiple times within a frame to mitigate the effects of transmission errors. The values of the status bit or bits can be maintained across node boundaries without regard to the framing mechanisms or multiplexing techniques used by the transport system, thus permitting dynamic bandwidth allocation beyond the local loop.
