摘要: A method of automatically constructing a model of an activity from an unsupervised examination of a plurality of textual documents describing the activity is comprised of: extracting prototypical steps from the plurality of textual documents; sequencing the extracted steps; aligning the sequenced steps; and constructing the model based on the aligned steps. The model may take the form of a step vs. position matrix which identifies the prototypical steps that make up the activity and provides the probability of each step occupying each position within the activity. The model thus constitutes common sense knowledge that encodes the stereotypical steps of an activity and the stereotypical sequencing of the steps.

摘要: The present invention relates to high quality composite materials from fibers such as glass, polyaramid or graphite fibers, where the composite incorporates a polymer matrix embedding individual fibers. The composites are lightweight materials displaying enhanced strength and durability. In one aspect, the polymer matrix is a thermoplastic or other polymer type that cannot easily penetrate gaps between individual fibers by typical methods for thermosets. The invention also relates to methods for forming composite materials, where the fiber is exposed to an emulsion including polymer particles having sufficiently small dimensions to allow impregnation into the fiber gaps. Composite sheets and articles are also described, as well as the formation of new composites for porous articles, e.g., ceramics or wood, where a polymer matrix is embedded within the pores.

摘要: A method of making a flat capacitor includes forming at least one recess on an inside surface of a metal foil blank, leaving a surrounding peripheral flange. A coating performing as an electrode of the capacitor is applied to the inside surface of the metal foil blank and an ion-permeable separator is placed on that inside surface of the metal foil blank. A substantially planar anode with a protruding lead is placed in the recess with the lead extending through a hole of the metal foil blank. Thereafter, the metal foil blank is folded along a line intersecting the hole so that the anode is sandwiched between parts of the separator and the separator is in contact with the coating on the inside surface of the metal foil blank. In the folding process, parts of the peripheral flange of the metal foil blank are brought into contact with each other and these parts are sealed to each other to form a hermetically sealed metal foil case of the capacitor.

摘要: In a novel approach for retrieving information a set of sub-documents first is established based upon a set of documents. A query is processed which operates on the set of sub-documents, causing a score to be generated for each sub-document. The score for each sub-document is indicative of the relevance of the corresponding sub-document to the query. The scores are reviewed and the best sub-document is retrieved. According to one aspect of the invention, the best sub-document has a score that indicates the highest relevance between the sub-document and the query. According to another aspect of the invention, in response to a user selection, the next best sub-document is identified and retrieved. The sub-documents are also presented to the user in an order based upon the scores. According to another aspect of the invention, the document containing the sub-document having the best score is displayed and automatically scrolled to the location of the sub-document having the best score. Based upon user input, the document is automatically scrolled to the location containing the next best sub-document. If the next best sub-document is contained in another document, that document is automatically loaded.
