Abstract:
The invention provides a method of producing an opto-electronic device wherein a layer of lattice matched material is grown on a substrate, the lattice matched material being a cubic zincblend material and the substrate being a cubic diamond or zincblend material, to form a coated substrate.
Abstract:
A steer by wire system for a vehicle that employs a steering torque assist to allow the vehicle operator to more easily steer the vehicle in the event of a steer by wire system fault. The steer by wire system includes a sensor that generates a signal indicative of the position of and torque applied to the steering wheel that is received by a controller. From the position signal, the controller controls the steering of the vehicle by a steering motor. A feedback motor provides counter-torque to the rotation of the steering wheel to simulate the turning of the vehicle wheels. If the steer by wire system fails, a clutch engages a mechanical linkage to allow the vehicle operator to control the vehicle steering by the steering wheel. The controller provides a motor drive signal to the feedback motor to provide the torque assist when the mechanical linkage is engaged.
Abstract:
The invention provides a selective system of placing a guide stock into a wellbore by braided line, coil tubing or drill pipe. The device facilitates selective intervention by providing a selective orientation key an angular relationship to the lateral through a system of selective keys and dogs allowing the diverter of the guide stock to be aligned at any desired angle with the orientation sub. The orientation sub includes a key for picking up on a helical slot in the packer to rotate the assembly and a set of selectively profiled dogs to engage a selected packer and halt downhole movement of the device.
Abstract:
The invention pertains to a novel, simpler dry-milling method for comminuting crude pigments (especially crude phthalocyanines) for use in offset inks, wherein a high amount of resin is used, at least part of which is a low molecular phenol-modified rosin, an esterified rosin or a hydrocarbon resin of similar properties, preferably together with an antioxidant, and dry-milling is performed at relatively low temperature. The invention also pertains to the thus obtained, new compositions, which are extraordinarily easily dispersible in hydrocarbon solvents, and their use for the preparation of inks or ink concentrates. Pigment dispersions obtained from the preferred compositions are also claimed.
Abstract:
A water vessel includes a hull having a maximum width. The hull defines a first portion and a second portion. Each of the first and second portions has an end at which a width of the hull converges relative to the maximum width of the hull. The second portion has a first member that defines a first end and a second end. An arm pivotally couples the first end of the first member to the first portion of the hull. The second end of the first member forms a portion of the end of the second portion that converges relative to the maximum width of the hull. The first member is movable relative to the first portion of the hull between a closed position and an open position.
Abstract:
An interventionless bi-directional barrier device of a downhole tool for use in a wellbore and a method of utilizing the barrier device to control the flow of production fluids in the wellbore are described herein. The barrier device includes a flapper mechanism having first and second flappers articulably linked together and articulably linked to a base member that is slidable within the downhole tool. The flapper mechanism provides a seal between opposing uphole-and downhole ends of the downhole tool upon actuation thereof. The method of controlling the flow of production fluids in the wellbore includes closing the barrier device to block flow through the tool, supporting the barrier device from a pressure exerted from a first direction, and supporting the barrier device from a pressure exerted from a second direction.
Abstract:
An electrotherapy method and apparatus for delivering a multiphasic waveform from an energy source to a patient. The preferred embodiment of the method comprises the steps of charging the energy source to an initial level; discharging the energy source across the electrodes to deliver electrical energy to the patient in a multiphasic waveform; monitoring a patient-dependent electrical parameter during the discharging step; shaping the waveform of the delivered electrical energy based on a value of the monitored electrical parameter, wherein the relative duration of the phases of the multiphasic waveform is dependent on the value of the monitored electrical parameter. The preferred apparatus comprises an energy source; two electrodes adapted to make electrical contact with a patient; a connecting mechanism forming an electrical circuit with the energy source and the electrodes when the electrodes are attached to a patient; and a controller operating the connecting mechanism to deliver electrical energy from the energy source to the electrodes in a multiphasic waveform the relative phase durations of which are based on an electrical parameter monitored during delivery of the electrical energy. The preferred defibrillator apparatus weighs less than 4 pounds and has a volume less than 150 cubic inches, and most preferably, weighs approximately three pounds or less and has a volume of approximately 141 cu. in.
Abstract:
A reclosable package comprises a first panel having first and second side sections and a second panel having first and second side sections. The first panel opposes the second panel and is joined to the second panel along the first and second side sections. A bottom extends between the first and second side sections of the first and second panels with the first and second panels joined to each other. A mouth is disposed opposite the bottom and extends between the first and second side sections of the first second panels. A closure member extends along the mouth, with the closure member including a first fin joined to the first panel and second fin joined to the second panel. A sealing member having a first and second ends is disposed proximate the mouth. The ends of the sealing member can be attached to the fin or panel such that at least one of the first end or second ends of the sealing member is attached with peelable seal.
Abstract:
A fastener for a plastic bag includes first and second mutually engageable track portions and a slider for engaging and disengaging the track portions. In a preferred embodiment, the slider includes a core portion and an end portion. The core portion is made of a first material having a first preselected material property. The end portion is made of a second material having a second preselected material property and is arranged at opposing ends of the slider.
Abstract:
A rod holder connects to a boat and holds a fly rod, a spinning rod or a casting rod. The rod holder generally includes a base member having a connection portion that connects to the boat and a holder member that couples to the base member. The holder member has a first end including a first holder portion and a second end including a second holder portion. The first end is distal from the second end. The first holder portion includes a base and at least one wall connected to the base. A first dimension defines a distance between the first holder portion and the second holder portion. A second dimension defines a distance between the base and an edge of the at least one wall. The edge is distal from the base. A ratio of the first distance to the second distance is in a range from about 2 to 1 to about 24 to 1.
