A sealant composition comprising:(a) 100 parts by weight of a silane functionalized polymer component which is prepared by reacting enough silane of the general formula R R'.sub.n SiY.sub.3-n (where n equals 0, 1 or 2 and where R is a non-hydrolyzable organic group which is capable of grafting onto the polymer, R' is a non-hydrolyzable organic group incapable of grafting onto the polymer and Y is a hydrolyzable organic group) with a polymer component to thereby functionalize the polymer component and provide a resultant sealant composition with adhesion which is resistant to deterioration in the presence of water;said polymer component comprising an A'B' block copolymer, a multiblock copolymer having at least two end blocks A and at least one midblock B, or mixtures of an A'B' block copolymer and the multiblock copolymer wherein:the A' and A blocks comprise monoalkenyl arene blocks and the B' and B blocks comprise substantially completely hydrogenated conjugated diene polymer blocks, and the average molecular weight of the A and A' blocks is greater than the minimum molecular weight needed to obtain microphase separation and domain formation of the A and A' blocks, and is less than the maximum molecular weight which would render the polymer incapable of being melt processed;the multiblock copolymer comprises a monoalkenyl arene content no more than a maximum weight percent needed to retain a modulus suitable as a sealant for the resultant composition and no less than a minimum weight percent needed to obtain the desired phase separation and the desired minimum cohesive strength for the resultant composition;(b) an amount of a midblock compatible component wherein said midblock compatible component is at a concentration to maintain the resultant composition in a plyable condition at room temperture and to maintain the glass transition temperature of the resultant composition below 10.degree. C.

The present invention relates to photocurable compositions for use in flexographic printing plates comprising selectively hydrogenated block copolymers of conjugated dienes and monoalkenyl arenes and flexographic printing plates made from the same. The block copolymers, either linear or radial, have terminal blocks of unsaturated conjugated diene. The block copolymer is further comprised of monoalkenyl arene blocks and hydrogenated conjugated diene blocks. The compositions exhibit exceptional improvement in degree of cure over comparative selectively hydrogenated block copolymers.

Hydrogenated butadiene polymers having about two terminal hydroxyl groups per molecule have surprisingly lower viscosities at 30% to 70% 1,2-addition than similar polymers having either higher or lower amounts of 1,2-addition. The polymers are useful in making coatings, sealants, binders, and block copolymers with polyesters, polyamides, and polycarbonates.

Pressure sensitive structural adhesive and sealant compositions comprising: (a) a polymer system comprising from 95 to 15 percent by weight of a telechelic polymer and from 5 to 85 percent by weight of a heterotelechelic polymer wherein at least one of the functionalities thereon is the same as the functionality on the telechelic polymer, and (b) a dual curing system wherein one element of the curing system cures the telechelic polymer and the common functionality on the heterotelechelic polymer and the other element cures the functionality on the heterotelechelic polymer but does not cure under the conditions required to cure the telechelic polymer to form a structural adhesive or sealant composition. In a preferred embodiment, the polymer system is comprised of a hydroxyl functional telechelic diol or polyol polymer and the heterotelechelic polymer is a monohydroxylated polydiene polymer which also has epoxidized olefin functionality. The dual curing system preferably is comprised of an isocyanate curing agent to cure through the hydroxyl groups at ambient temperatures to form a pressure sensitive adhesive or sealant and an amino resin to cure through the epoxy functionality upon baking to form a structural adhesive or sealant.

The capping of anionic polymers to make functionalized polymers is used to make heterotelechelic polymers by using a protected functional initiator to polymerize a polymer comprising a conjugated diene and then capping the polymer with low surface energy fluorocarbons. The protected functional groups are stable under a variety of conditions and then readily convert to more reactive terminal functional groups useful for making sealants, coatings, molded or extruded goods and fibers having low surface energy.

A process for making polymers of conjugated dienes which contain hydroxyl groups in the diene blocks which comprises(a) making a precursor polymer by polymerizing at least one conjugated diene which leaves 1,2 disubstituted, 1,1 disubstituted, 1,1,2 trisubstituted or tetrasubstituted olefinic unsaturation in the polymer,(b) optionally partially hydrogenating said precursor polymer,(c) epoxidizing said precursor polymer such that epoxy groups form at said substituted sites and the amount of epoxy functionality in the polymer is from 0.1 to 5 Meq/g polymer, and(d) reacting the epoxidized polymer with an alcohol solution of hydrochloric acid.A diene polymer containing 0.1 to 10 Meq/g polymer of hydroxyl group and comprised of alcohol units of the formula ##STR1## where R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are hydrogen or alkyl radicals and X and X' are either --OH or --Cl and at least one of them is --OH.
