摘要:
The present invention relates to the analysis of cytological material. Specifically, the invention relates to stains and methods of producing the stains, methods of staining cells for cytological or histological analysis to contrast the nuclear portion of the cell from the cytoplasmic portion, and systems and methods for illuminating a cytological sample. The analysis can be automated or manual.

Methods, systems, and computer software for screening and assisting in screening biological specimens. Images of a biological specimen are obtained, and image data is generated from the images. Objects of interest (OOI) are identified from the image data. The OOIs are assigned to each of a plurality of fields of interest (FOIs), at least partially based on the assignment of OOIs to other FOIs. For example, OOIs that have not previously been assigned to other FOIs can be assigned to a selected FOI. In this manner, the OOIs can be grouped within the FOIs to maximize the number of OOIs included within FOIs, or alternatively, to minimize the number of FOIs required to include all of the OOIs. Once assignment of the OOIs is complete, a field of view (FOV) can be scanned relative to each FOI in order to present the OOIs to a technician, such as a cytotechnologist.

The present invention relates to the analysis of specimens. Specifically, the invention relates to methods and apparatus for reviewing specimen slides, including apparatus for holding the slides. The invention also relates to an automatic focusing method for an imaging system and methods for accommodating vibration in the imaging system. In particular, the methods and apparatus may be applied to the automated analysis of cytological specimen slides.

Pathology specimen slides are positively located on trays, and picked and placed by an auto-loader. The trays are received in a rack in tiers accessed by an auto-loader that moves the slides between the trays and a digital imaging microscope. The trays can have rows of receptacles for slides with standoff structures spacing the slides above a tray bottom. Lateral and endwise partitions defining the receptacles are inclined oppositely inwardly for guiding a slide into the predetermined position on the tray. The autoloader has a manipulator that grasps the ends of slides presented in a front row, and can reach over the front row to grasp slides in one or more rows beyond the front. The manipulator lifts the slide between the inclined surfaces of the partitions, loads and later retrieves the slide from the microscope and replaces the slide in the holder.

An electric oscillating tool, having particular but not necessarily exclusive utility as an electric toothbrush, for driving a brush head assembly or end effector with a resonant mechanism at high frequencies. The electric toothbrush includes handle housing, an electromagnetic motor mounted in the housing, and a mechanical oscillator acted upon by the motor. One end of the mechanical oscillator extends outwardly through an opening in the handle housing while the other end is attached to the housing inside the chamber. The end effector/brush head assembly attaches to the extending end of the mechanical oscillator. A power source supplies an alternating current drive signal to the motor, in turn causing the armature and the mechanical oscillator to oscillate and drive the brush head assembly. Control circuitry senses the frequency of oscillation of the mechanical oscillator and controls the frequency of the drive signal to maintain the mechanical oscillator at resonance under the variety of loads imposed during use.

A first electrode arrangement and a transport element are movable relative to a support. A working space is disposed between the movable elements for advancing moist material along a processing path. As the moist material advances, electrical current is passed through the material between the first electrode arrangement and a second electrode arrangement adjacent the transport element. An acoustic transducer arrangement disposed adjacent the working space simultaneously subjects the moist material to an acoustic field as the material moves along the processing path. The acoustic field is generated by an array of acoustic transducers spaced along part of the processing path.
