摘要： A method for evaluating sperm fertility. The method includes the steps of obtaining a sample of sperm from an animal of a species; staining the sample with a fluorescent DNA-binding dye; collecting at least one image of the stained sample; determining an edge of a nucleus of at least one sperm within the stained sample in the at least one image; measuring an intensity of the DNA-binding dye within an area defined by the edge of the nucleus of the at least one sperm; determining an average intensity per unit area of the area defined by the edge of the nucleus of the at least one sperm; comparing the average intensity per unit area to an average intensity per unit area for high-fertility sperm and low-fertility sperm of the same species to determine if the sample has high or low fertility.

摘要： One variation of the method for managing blood loss of a patient includes: receiving an image of a physical sample; extracting a feature from an area of the image corresponding to the physical sample; estimating a blood volume indicator of the physical sample according to the extracted feature; estimating a patient blood loss based on the blood volume indicator; estimating a euvolemic patient hematocrit based on an estimated patient blood volume and the estimated patient blood loss; receiving a measured patient hematocrit; and generating a volemic status indicator based on a comparison between the measured patient hematocrit and the estimated euvolemic patient hematocrit.

A plurality of light sources may be configured to produce a plurality of light beams at different spectral wavebands. An optical assembly may be configured to combine the plurality of light beams into one or more incident light sheets. Each incident light sheet may illuminate one or more nanoparticles in a liquid sample. One or more image detectors may be configured to detect, using a plurality of wavelengths, light scattered or emitted by one or more nanoparticles. The plurality of wavelengths may correspond to the different spectral wavebands of the plurality of light beams. Related apparatus, systems, techniques, and articles are also described.

摘要： An apparatus and method for imaging a sample of substantially undiluted whole blood is provided. The method includes the steps of: providing a substantially undiluted whole blood sample admixed with at least one non-Wright stain colorant, which colorant is operable to differentially identify constituents containing cytoplasmic material; providing an analysis device having an analyzer with at least one processor, at least one sample illuminator, and at least one image sensor; creating an image of the sample using the analysis device; and using the analysis device to transform the image to a transformed image having a coloration recognizable as a Wright stained sample.
