    摘要: A disposable bipolar electrosurgical probe which can be readily applied to the tissue to be treated, then discarded. The probe comprises an elongated substrate member having a peripheral surface of dielectric material and a longitudinal axis extending between a working end and an attachment end. At least a pair of electrically isolated electrodes extend continuously on the peripheral surface of the substrate member between an active region at the working end and an electrical terminal region at the attachment end for quick connection and/or disconnection, respectively, to opposite poles of an RF generator. A handle with a quick disconnect mechanism is provided to physically support the probe and enable it to be selectively energized. The probes can be of a fail safe construction so as to assure that only a proper probe can be used for a desired treatment.

    摘要: An electrosurgical device for use in the treatment of tissue, particularly in the esophageal and anal regions of the body. The device comprises a multipolar probe body sized for passage into and within a body cavity whose tissue is to be treated without the aid of an endoscope. The probe body includes an active member for providing focused treatment of tissue, the active member being cylindrical and having a peripheral surface on which are mounted a plurality of electrodes, those of one polarity being interposed with those of the opposite polarity. The length of the electrodes can be chosen to obtain desired longitudinal focussing. Additionally, the electrodes can be positioned within a restricted arc to obtain desired peripheral focussing. The probe body also includes non active rounded cap members at its proximal and distal ends, and at its proximal end is mounted on a shaft which extends to the user. A filliform may be mounted on the distal end of the probe body to aid in its insertion into the esophagus. A handle can be attached to the shaft to enable the user to easily adjust the longitudinal positioning of the probe body as well as rotate the probe body about its longitudinal axis to precisely focus on the tissue to be treated without adversely affecting surrounding tissue.

Flexible fiber or rigid optics extend between the control head and the objective assembly for the purpose of transmitting to the control head an image viewed from the distal end.     摘要: An inspection system in which a fiber optic borescope has an elongated flexible body extending between a control head at a proximal end and an objective assembly at a distal end. The distal end is slidably inserted through a tubular elongated flexible guide member which has an operating head at a near end and a distal collar at a remote end capable of deflecting in four discrete directions. The objective assembly of the borescope is capable of deflecting in two discrete directions. A telescoping rigid support member connects the control head to the operating head and slidably receives the flexible body of the borescope. When the support member is retracted, the control head is proximate to the operating head and the objective assembly extends far beyond the distal collar. When the support member is extended, the control head is distant from the operating head and the objective assembly lies proximate to the distal collar. Cables for operating the distal collar extend between the near end and the remote end and each cable is operatively connected to the distal collar at one end and at the other end to an actuating element on the operating head for manual operation of the distal collar. A coil spring coaxial with the guide member extends between the operating head and the distal collar and firmly holds the operating cables against an inner surface of the guide member.

    摘要: A method of manufacturing an electrohydraulic probe for use with a lithotriptic instrument is shown. The probe comprises a first electrode, a second electrode and a relatively rigid spacer means therebetween to maintain a relatively constant equidistant space between the first and second electrodes during the entire work life of the probe. The method comprises the steps of connecting a distal end spacer member with a first electrode wherein the spacer member has a central aperture therein with a relatively constant thickness between its central aperture and an outer perimeter of the space member at the distal tip of the probe and wherein the spacer member comprises a relatively mechanically rigid dielectric material; and connecting a second electrode with the spacer member wherein the central aperture such that said second electrode is spaced equidistantly from the first electrode at the distal tip of the probe.

    摘要: The bipolar modular forceps assembly is a disposable electrosurgical device utilized with an RF voltage supply to weld soft tissue to prevent bleeding when cut or excised. The device consists of two modularly constructed arms arranged in scissor configuration that clamp when the arms are apart and open when the arms are squeezed together. The wires enter from the rear of the device, behind the digit insertion of the upper arm, and run through the interior of the upper arm before reaching the pivot point. From the pivot joint, one wire continues to the bottom jaw and the other wire wraps around the pin bushing in the pivot joint and proceeds to the top jaw. At all times the wires are fully insulated by the insulative cover with the only exposed wire occurring where they enter the device. The bipolar voltage of each wire is transferred to an electrode on each jaw. The electrodes are insulated from surrounding tissue by the insulative jaw, which contains visible markings showing the beginning, middle and end of the electrode. Both the insulative jaw and the electrode are interchangeable and made from moldable material to allow for different sizes and shapes. When no voltage is applied the tool can be used as a blunt dissector.
