摘要: A method of controlling ablation volume depth includes providing a treatment apparatus. The apparatus comprises a housing having a proximal and distal end including a tissue contacting surface. The housing defines an interior with an energy delivery device positionable in the interior. The energy delivery device includes at least one electrode with a tissue penetrating distal end and is configured to be advanced from the interior into a target tissue site to define an ablation volume. An advancement device is coupled to the energy delivery device and is configured to advance the at least one electrode. The at least one electrode is advanced to a selected deployment depth beneath a tissue surface while avoiding a critical structure. Energy is delivered from the energy delivery device. An ablation volume is created at a controlled depth below the tissue surface responsive to the deployment depth while minimizing injury to the critical structure.

摘要: A conductive focus waffle structure for focusing electrons emitted from a cathode portion of a flat panel display device, and a method for forming the conductive focus waffle structure. In one embodiment, the present invention applies a first layer of photo-imagable material above a cathode portion of a flat panel display device. This embodiment then removes portions of the layer of photo-imagable material such that openings are formed therein. A layer of conductive material is then applied over the cathode such that conductive material is disposed within the openings in the layer of photo-imagable material. A dielectric layer of material is also disposed between the cathode and the bottom surface of the conductive material. This embodiment of the present invention then removes the layer of photo-imagable material such that at least a portion of the conductive focus waffle structure is formed disposed above the cathode. In so doing, at least a first portion of a conductive focus waffle structure having a dielectric bottom portion is formed.

摘要: A method for increasing the ability of apoglucose oxidase to combine with flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) and derivatives thereof to form active glucose oxidase by interacting apoglucose oxidase with an immunologically derived binding substance, e.g., an antibody or a fragment thereof, having a specific binding affinity for glucose oxidase. The apoglucose oxidase/anti-glucose oxidase immune complex is characterized by enhanced ability to combine with FAD and FAD-derivatives to yield glucose oxidase activity. The activation is particularly significant at temperatures elevated from room temperature, e.g., between 30.degree.-45.degree. C. An improved homogeneous specific binding assay method is provided for determining ligands wherein an FAD label is used and is monitored by its ability to combine with apoglucose oxidase to form active glucose oxidase by including anti-glucose oxidase in the reaction mixture.

摘要: A specific binding assay for determining a ligand in a liquid medium employing an organic prosthetic group residue, such as a residue of flavin adenine dinucleotide, flavin mononucleotide, or heme, as a label component in the labeled conjugate. Preferably, the label component is the prosthetic group residue alone or is a holoenzyme residue comprising such prosthetic group residue combined with an apoenzyme in the form of a holoenzyme complex. In the former case, the label component preferably is monitored in the assay by adding an apoenzyme after the binding reaction has been initiated and measuring the resultant holoenzyme activity. In the latter case, the label component is monitored simply by measuring holoenzyme activity. The assay method may follow conventional homogeneous and heterogeneous schemes. Preferred apoenzymes for use in the assay are apoglucose oxidase and apoperoxidase. The assay offers the advantages of colorimetric read-out and of being readily adaptable to automated techniques. Also disclosed are prosthetic group-labeled and enzyme-labeled conjugates for use in the assay, as well as a method for preparing the latter conjugates.

摘要: This invention relates to certain non-silicone vulcanized rubber articles that are made from at least a majority by weight of vulcanized styrene butadiene rubber that include silver-based compounds to provide highly desirable long-term antimicrobial characteristics within the cured rubber articles. Such articles are in either solid or blown (foam or sponge) state (or combinations of both in multilayered forms) and can be utilized in a variety of different applications. This invention encompasses the presence of non-sulfur-based curing systems and agents, such as peroxide curing, that permit vulcanization and do not irreversibly bind silver ions thereto, thereby resulting in long-term antimicrobial performance of the ultimate rubber article itself. This invention also encompasses certain non-silicone pre-vulcanized raw rubber formulations made from at least a majority by weight of styrene butadiene rubber that include silver-based components to provide highly desirable long-term antimicrobial characteristics within the ultimate cured rubber articles made therefrom.
