Abstract:
Cervical dilation is measured by a V-shaped caliper instrument having connectors on the free ends of the caliper arms for securement to respectively opposed portions of the cervix, and a transducer coupled with the arms to provide an electric signal representing their mutually relative positions. The transducer suitably comprises strain gages mounted on a spring acting between the arms. The connectors can be toothed spring clips pivoted on the arms, but are preferably pins projecting generally parallel to the arms from the underfaces of outwardly turned free end portions thereof. In the latter case the arms preferably have spring guard strips extending alongside their outer faces at their ends.
Abstract:
A fluid transfer mechanism for rapidly and accurately picking up or aspirating a fluid quantity or aliquot in one position, moving it to a second position and dispensing the aspirated aliquot. The mechanism includes an arm mounted on a high helix shaft on one end and driven up and down the shaft by a first motor and rotated around the shaft by a second motor. The arm includes at a second end a fluid transfer probe which is moved into and out of the fluids to aspirate and dispense the fluids in precise angular locations. The arm may be accelerated and deaccelerated as it is rotated to avoid vibrations and spilling of the fluid from the probe. The probe may include a level sensing structure for sensing when the probe has contacted a fluid surface. The probe also may be coupled to an oscillator to oscillate the probe in a vessel into which the fluid has been dispensed to mix the fluids therein.

Abstract:
The present invention for guided touring of websites includes a web tour director programmed onto a web server for connecting a client system to a number of web sites in accordance with a web tour stop vector identifying the web sites as tour stops of a web guided tour. The present invention further includes a media rendering function also programmed onto the web server for rendering on the client system, one or more corresponding media for each of the web sites, for at least a portion of the time while the web site is connected to the client system.
Abstract:
There is provided a method for performing skin tests for biologic response which includes providing an applicator having at least one pick having at least one skin piercing epidermal point and being capable of carrying a load of testing substance such as biologic substances, such as an antigen, for skin testing for each pick, each of said sources being carried in a container having an opening. The applicator is placed in sealing relationship over each of the openings in the container to form a single unit of the combined applicator and source. The unit is then inverted so as to load each pick with an effective amount of substance to perform a skin test, reverting said unit, and the applicator is removed in loaded condition ready for use. The testing substances are epicutaneously deposited by piercing the patient's skin with each pick to a predetermined depth and observing the pierced skin for response to the testing substance.
Abstract:
An automatic spindle engager for a part-time axle of a four-wheel drive motor vehicle includes a wheel spindle that carries a wheel, an outer drive member, inner drive member drivably connected to an engine through an axleshaft, a set of drive rollers and clutch surfaces for drivably connecting the outer member and inner member, a set of spring loaded trigger rollers and inclined clutch surfaces on which the rollers are held, and a retainer movable with the changing position of the trigger rollers for transmitting movement of the trigger rollers to the set of drive rollers. Pairs of inclined clutch surfaces form detents in which the drive rollers are located when no torque is transmitted through the mechanism. The drive rollers move on their inclined clutch surfaces in accordance with movement of the retainer. This drivably connects a road wheel and the driven axle only when torque is transmitted in either direction from the engine to the wheels and from the wheels to the engine.
Abstract:
A golf bag combination having separated and angled receptacles connected by a pocketed netting, a pair of integrated back pack straps, a storable large poncho-like rain cover, and integrated retractable tripod legs for standing the golf bag.
Abstract:
A semi-independent suspension system for a wheeled vehicle is of a Short Super Long Arm (SSLA) configuration. The suspension system includes a beam having a first end and a second end. A first wheel carrier is coupled to the first end of the beam. A second wheel carrier is coupled to the second end of the beam. A first bifurcated upper control arm (A-arm) is pivotally coupled between the frame and the first wheel carrier. A second bifurcated upper control arm is pivotally coupled between the frame and the second wheel carrier. First and second springs, each coupled between an end of the beam and the frame, support the frame of the vehicle on the beam. The center of the springs are connected to the beam by a mounting bracket, which has a central opening for receiving a half shaft for driving a wheel associated with the wheel carrier.
Abstract:
A speed reduction and differential mechanism assembly includes an input shaft; first and second output shafts; a planetary gearset comprising a sun gear, ring gear, carrier and planet gears rotatably supported on the carrier and in continuous meshing engagement with the sun gear and ring gear: and means for shifting the gearset between positions spaced mutually along the input shaft, a first position where the input shaft driveably engages the sun gear, the first and second output shafts driveably engage the carrier and the ring gear is held against rotation; a second position where the input shaft driveably engages the carrier, the sun gear driveably engages the first output shaft, and the ring gear driveably engages the second output shaft.
Abstract:
A two-piece locking nut which includes a first nut (22) having an internal thread and a frusto-conical surface (32) at one end of said first nut, a second nut (28) having an internal thread of opposite hand as the thread of said first nut and a frusto-conical surface (36) at an end of said second nut which is complimentary to and positioned adjacent said frusto-conical surface of said first nut to prevent relative movement therebetween, and the second axial end (38) of the first nut opposite the frusto-conical surface (32) is positioned adjacent a workpiece to prevent axial displacement thereof.
