摘要： An apparatus for effecting penetration and mass transfer at a penetrable situs, comprising: (a) a penetration member constructed and arranged for movement between (i) a first position disengaged from the penetrable situs, and (ii) a second position engaged with the penetrable situs to form a penetration opening in the penetrable situs communicating with an interior region thereof; (b) a motive driver for selectively moving the penetration member between the first position and second position; and (c) a mass transfer assembly (i) selectively engageable with the penetration opening in the penetrable situs, after formation thereof by the penetration member in the second position and subsequent movement of the penetration member by the motive driver to the first position, and (ii) constructed and arranged to effect mass transfer through the penetration opening between the interior region of the penetrable situs and a locus exterior to the penetrable situs, when the mass transfer assembly is engaged with the penetration opening. Also disclosed is an appertaining method of effecting penetration and mass transfer at a penetrable situs. The invention may be usefully employed for inerting of "dud" ordnance, for sampling of contained materials of unknown identity and origin having potentially hazardous character, and for other applications involving mass transfer between an interior region of a penetrable situs and a mass transfer locus exterior thereto.

摘要： Apparatus and a process for bonding a core member to a housing member, particularly, in instances in which the members do not mate in a contiguous fashion. The invention includes some manual and some semi-automatic functions, but is largely automated and computer controlled. A conveyor carries an assembly of an initially joined but unbonded core member and housing member along a series of discrete stations. After some preparatory steps in the process, an initial continuous bead of sealant is first applied on one side of the assembly to close off the space between the members and thereby form a cavity between them. The bead is cured, then the assembly is inverted and the cavity is filled with an anaerobic bonding material. A second continuous bead of sealant is then applied on the other side of the assembly to close off the remaining space between the members as well to isolate the bonding material within the cavity. The second bead of sealant is also cured after which the fully bonded assembly is removed and replaced with a fresh assembly to be operated upon.

摘要： Apparatus for dispensing material in metered amounts and without clogging includes a body having a material discharge orifice and a discharge valve seat, a hollow valve spindle engageable with the seat for shutting off the flow of material through the orifice, the spindle being retractable against the force of the return spring for opening the orifice to permit flow of material therethrough. A jet of air is discharged through the hollow valve spindle, when the flow of material through the discharge orifice is shut off for removing any material remaining at the discharge orifice. The spindle may project through the orifice, when the flow of material therethrough is shut off, for removing any residual material from the wall of the discharge orifice. And, a coaxial hollow tube for dispensing another material may be provided in the body, such tube forming an annular passage with the spindle for the jet of air, and such tube extending through the orifice for combining the dispensed materials outwardly of the discharge orifice.

摘要： An apparatus for coating the threads of articles such as fasteners, pipes, plugs, valves, fittings, etc., includes an indexing table for intermittently moving the articles along an arcuate path, rotatable article spindle assemblies on the table radially spaced apart an equal distance and being stopped at a dispensing station and at a wiping station spaced therefrom equal to such distance. A dispensing head at the dispensing station includes a nozzle for delivering a coating of the sealant onto the threads of a rotating articles, and a wiper wheel at the wiping station wipes the coated threads and presses the coated sealant into the thread roots during rotation of the wheel which likewise rotates the coated articles.

摘要： An apparatus for applying a liquid product to a workpiece includes a pump piston and cylinder unit for pumping the product through a valved outlet orifice, displacement of the piston being adjustable for controlling the amount of product dispensed, the piston being pneumatically operated, and a rotatable turret being mounted on the unit and having a plurality of seats for holding workpieces of different sizes. Liquid product passageways extend from the seats toward the outlet orifice, and one of such passage ways communicates with the orifice in a selected rotative position of the turret.
