    摘要: Systems and methods for beamforming using a cross-mixing architecture are provided. A beamformer can use an element-to-element mixing concept and can avoid the use of conventional bulky analog phase shifters. Incident signals can be sent through a phase-locked loop and then mixed with a signal from an antenna element oppositely spaced about a phase center of the antenna element array. Beamformers can be integrated into existing hybrid structures by substituting the traditional analog part of the beamforming process.

    摘要: In one exemplary embodiment, a transmission line geometry or structure may readily be realized as periodic printed coupled/uncoupled microstrip lines on dielectric and/or suitable biased ferromagnetic substrates. An example of a transmission line geometry or structure may be adapted to emulate extraordinary propagation modes within bulk periodic assemblies of anisotropic dielectric and magnetic materials. For instance, wave propagation in anisotropic media may be emulated by using a pair of coupled transmission lines (30, 32) having a specially designed geometry, thereby enabling mold wave dispersion in a microwave or optical guided wave structure. Degenerate band edge resonances, frozen modes, other extraordinary modes, and other unique electromagnetic properties such as negative refraction index may be realized using unique geometrical arrangements that may, for example, be easily manufactured using contemporary RF or photonics/solid state technology.

    摘要: A slot spiral antenna with a planar integrated balun and feed. The slot spiral is produced using standard printed circuit techniques and comprises a dielectric substrate having a conductive layer which is etched to form the radiating slot spiral. An integrated microstrip feed is included to provide a balanced feed to the slot spiral. Impedance matching is performed between the microstrip feed and the slotline of the slot spiral to maximize energy transfer. A shallow reflecting cavity is included to limit the spiral radiation to one direction. The described antenna apparatus provides a simple, broadband spiral antenna suitable for incorporating into the skin of a moving vehicle.
