摘要: An actuator comprises an electroactive polymer layer (402) and a stretchable electrode structure (403) disposed at a first side of the electroactive polymer layer and further a counter electrode layer (401) disposed on a second side of the electroactive polymer layer, wherein the ratio YC/YEAP of the elastic modulus YC of the counter electrode layer and the elastic modulus YEAP of the electroactive polymer layer is at least 10. When compressed transversally by the electrodes, the electroactive polymer will expand tangentially and the actuator will relax into a shape wherein the interior of the electroded region is substantially recessed parallel to the plane of the device, while a substantial portion of the area increase is absorbed by out-of-plane bends arising at the electrode boundary (duck mode). The invention can be embodied as optically reflective or refractive devices with variable geometry.

摘要: Biomedical devices, such as ophthalmic lenses, and methods of making such devices having a surface coating including at least one polyionic layer. A preferred method involves spray coating a polycationic material onto a core lens, rinsing and drying the lens, followed by spray coating a polyanionic material, rinsing and drying. The coating process may be applied a plurality of times to achieve a multi-layer coating on the lens surface. A particularly preferred embodiment is a contact lens comprising a highly oxygen permeable hydrophobic core coated with a 5 to 20 bilayers of hydrophilic polyionic materials.

摘要: The invention concerns a device (1) for wetting a medical equipment component (20) with a liquid medium (M), having a dispenser (10) for applying the liquid medium (M) to a section (200) of the component (20) that is to be wetted. A device of this type is characterized by a suction device (12) for drawing off at least a portion of the liquid medium (M) from the section (200) of the component (20) that is to be wetted. The invention furthermore concerns a method for wetting a component. In this manner, a device and a method for wetting a component with a liquid medium is created, with which a wetting procedure can be executed in an at least partially automated manner, at least partially reducing the risk thereby of blockage at the opening of the component as a result of too much liquid being applied.

摘要: The instant invention pertains to a method and a fluid composition for producing contact lenses with improved lens quality and with increased product yield. The method of the invention involves adding a non-crosslinkable hydrophilic polymer into a fluid composition including a lens-forming material in an amount sufficient to reduce an averaged mold separation force by at least about 40% in comparison with that without the non-crosslinkable hydrophilic polymer and to provide a disparity of about 10 N or less in mold separation force. The non-crosslinkable hydrophilic polymer has a limited miscibility with the lens-forming material low enough to successfully and timely form an intact interfacial film with a sufficient thickness at an interface between the mold and the fluid composition therein, and has a structure that minimizes entanglement of the non-crosslinkable hydrophilic polymer in the interfacial film with the polymer matrix of the formed lens.
