    Abstract: The present disclosure includes a waterborne polyolefin based coating layer that has improved features as compared to epoxy coatings. The coating composition of the present disclosure include 40 to 80 weight percent (wt. %) of a base polymer; 10 to 30 wt. % of a polymeric stabilizing agent; 5 to 15 wt. % of a polymeric coupling agent; 0 to 35 wt. % of a polymeric performance improving agent; a neutralizing agent that partially or fully neutralize the polymeric stabilizing agent; and a fluid medium, where the wt. % values are based on the total weight of the base polymer, the polymeric coupling agent, the polymeric stabilizing agent and, when present, the polymeric performance improving agent (as used herein, this total weight of the base polymer, the polymeric coupling agent, the polymeric stabilizing agent and, when present, the polymeric performance improving agent may be referred to as the “solid content” of the coating composition).

    Abstract: The present invention provides aqueous compositions for making damage tolerant coatings comprising a blend of (i) from 2 to 30 wt. %, based on the total weight of solids in the composition, of an acid or anhydride functionalized polyolefin dispersion having an average particle size of from 0.2 to 5 microns, and (ii) a film forming dispersion of one or more epoxy resins chosen from epoxy resins having an epoxy equivalent weight (EEW) of from 150 to 4,000 having an average particle size of from 0.2 to 1.0 microns, wherein the polyolefin dispersion is stabilized with from 2 to 8 wt. %, based on the total weight of solids in the composition, one or more anionic surfactants, such as a sulfate containing surfactant, and, further wherein, the compositions have a pH of from 3 to 8.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to an article and a method for its preparation; the article comprises a cured polymeric film superposing paper or paperboard. The polymeric film comprises: a) a base polymer comprising structural units of ethylene and a C1-C12-alkyl acrylate or methacrylate, wherein the weight-to-weight ratio of the structural units of ethylene and the C1-C12-alkyl acrylate or methacrylate is in the range of from 99.8:0.2 to 50:50; and b) a dispersant which is a copolymer comprising structural units of ethylene and a carboxylic acid monomer, wherein the copolymer has a melt flow index in the range of from 50 to 2000 g/10 min at 190° C., and the weight-to-weight ratio of structural units of ethylene to carboxylic acid monomer is in the range of from 95:5 to 75:25; wherein the dispersant has a concentration in the range of from 9 to 50 weight percent based on the weight of the cured film; and wherein the sum of the dispersant and the base polymer comprise from 10 to 100 percent of the weight of cured film. The article of the present invention is useful as a barrier to a wide range of hydrophobic and hydrophilic materials.
