摘要： A process for improved corrosion protection of a metal substrates involving organic vapor deposition of a thin film by polymerization of certain precursors onto one side of the phosphated flat metal substrate (15). Following stamping and assembly of the metal substrate, a primer and topcoat may be applied over the other side of the metal substrate. The process is particularly applicable to coil steel employed in the original manufacture of automobiles, trucks, and parts thereof.

摘要： Improved powder paint compositions providing greater depth variation of metal pigment particles comprise (1) aluminum flakes individually encapsulated in a thin, continuous, thermoplastic, organic film-former containing an ammonium salt selected from tetraalkyl ammonium halides and substituted tetraalkylammonium halides wherein at least one alkyl radical is replaced with an aryl, phenoxy, or alkoxy radical and (2) a particulate, organic film-former. The encapsulated aluminum flakes are prepared by intimately dispersing the aluminum flakes in a solution of the thermoplastic, organic film-former and the ammonium salt in a volatile solvent and spray drying the resultant dispersion. In the preferred embodiment, the particulate, organic film-former is also a thermoplastic material and, in the most preferred embodiment, it is of the same composition as the coating on the aluminum flakes.

摘要： Improved powder paint compositions employing particulate metal color producing components comprise a unique combination of (a) aluminum flakes individually encapsulated in a thin, thermoplastic organic film-former (b) nickel powder, and (c) the principal film-former of the powder paint composition in particulate form. The encapsulated aluminum flake is prepared by intimately dispersing the aluminum flake in a solution of the thermoplastic, organic film-former of controlled concentration and spray drying the resultant dispersion. In the preferred embodiment, the principal film-former of the powder paint composition is also a thermoplastic material and, in the most preferred embodiment, it is also of the same composition as the principal film-former of the powder coating composition.

摘要： Metal particles used as color producing component in powder coating compositions are individually encapsulated in a thin and continuous coating of thermosettable, organic film-former prior to mixing with the particulate, organic, material which serves as the principal film-former of the powder coating composition. The coated particles are prepared by spray drying a solution of a controlled amount of the thermosettable material in a volatile solvent in which the metal has been dispersed. In the preferred embodiment, the coating thus achieved on the metal particles is cross-linkable with the principal film-former of the powder coating composition.

Products bearing unique finish coatings prepared by this method are claimed.This invention relates to the art of coating. More specifically, this invention relates to a novel method of coating substrates, particularly metal substrates, and to the products produced by such method.
