Abstract:
An impact copolymer composition comprising a continuous phase comprising polypropylene and from 10 wt % to 80 wt % of a dispersed phase, based on the total amount of the composition, comprising a copolymer of ethylene and a C4-C8 alpha-olefin, the dispersed phase having an average particle size of less than 500 nm. A process for making is also disclosed.
Abstract:
Bottlebrush poly(alpha olefin)s of high carbon number, greater than 12 such as poly(octadecene), are used as a thickener for a synthetic base oil grease lubricant that is based on oligomerized alpha olefin with carbon number from 7 to 12, such as oligo(decene). Dispersion aids are not required in the present lubricants because poly(octadecene) can be dissolved in oligo(decene). The lubricant is a solid grease formed by percolation/network of the poly(octadecene) crystals, at a sufficient concentration, after the crystallization of poly(octadecene), and water resistant having oxidation/high temperature stability.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a method to stabilize a poly(arylene ether) comprising combining a neat or diluted poly(arylene ether) with a vinyl or vinylidene-terminated polyolefin at a temperature of at least 80° C. to form heated reaction components; combining a Brφnsted acid or Lewis acid with the heated reaction components; and isolating a polyolefin-poly(arylene ether) copolymer composition.
Abstract:
Embodiments described herein relate to polyhdroxyalkanoate (PHA) copolymers and methods for their preparation utilizing ring-opening polymerization of lactones. Variations of the monomer composition, % of alternation, tacticity, and/or microstructure allow for tailoring of mechanical properties that fall into the elastomer, plastomer, and thermoplastic range.
Abstract:
A method for preparing a polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) polymer by ring-opening polymerization, comprising: polymerizing a lactone in a presence of a solvent and a catalyst with a yttrium metal center under reaction conditions; controlling the polymerization to derive a polymer from the lactone with the polymer having predetermined tensile properties, wherein a Tm of the polymer ranges from 90 to 170° C. and the tensile properties are determined by a ligand of the catalyst, the solvent, and a temperature of the reaction conditions; and recovering the polymer.
Abstract:
A thermoplastic vulcanizate composition, comprising a first phase bi-continuously intertwined with from about 10 wt % to 80 wt % of a second phase throughout the composition, and from about 0.1 wt % to about 10 wt % of a curative system, the first phase comprising polypropylene and the second phase comprising an at least partially cured elastomeric rubber composition, comprising from about 10 wt % to about 40 wt % ethylene, from about 5 wt % to about 10 wt % of a conjugated diene having from 4 to 12 carbon atoms, and from about 50 wt % to about 85 wt % of a C4-C8 alpha olefin, based on the total weight of the elastomeric rubber composition present. A process for making is also disclosed.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an article comprising polymers and copolymers selected from the group consisting of poly(vinylbiphenyl), poly(vinylcyclohexylstyrene), substituted versions thereof, and blends thereof, the polymer or copolymer having a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of at least 100 kg/mole and a glass transition temperature (Tg) of at least 100° C. The polymers are desirably processed in the melted state at a temperature of at least 150° C. to impart orientation and extensional strain hardening.
