    摘要: The present invention provides a method of operating a base station transmitter. In one embodiment, the method includes providing a cellular downlink synchronization signal having primary and secondary portions, wherein the primary portion is common for all cells and the secondary portion is cell-specific and transmitting the cellular downlink synchronization signal. In another embodiment, the method includes providing a cellular downlink synchronization signal having primary and secondary portions wherein the primary portion employs a corresponding one of a plurality of different primary signals allocated to adjoining transmission cells. The method also includes further providing cell-specific information in the secondary portion and transmitting the cellular downlink synchronization signal. The present invention also provides a method of operating user equipment. The method includes receiving a cellular downlink synchronization signal having primary and secondary portions wherein the secondary portion provides cell-specific parameters and identifying and extracting the secondary portion.

Each of the plurality of different user channels includes circuitry (22n) for forming a second symbol group sequence (D2n) by time reversing symbols in at least some of the groups of symbols.

The receiver comprises a plurality of receive antennas and collection circuitry for collecting a plurality of signal samples with at least one symbol and with interference effects between different symbols. The receiver also comprises suppression circuitry, for suppressing the interference effects. The receiver also comprises circuitry for receiving signals from the suppression circuitry and for providing estimates of a group of bits. The receiver also comprises error detection circuitry for detecting an error in a packet that comprises the group of bits. Lastly, the receiver also comprises circuitry for requesting the transmitter to transmit a retransmission of a packet in response to detecting the error.
