摘要: Various exemplary devices and methods are provided for performing surgical procedures. In general, one or more adjuncts can be used in conjunction with surgical instruments. The adjunct(s) can have medicant(s) thereon and/or therein. The medicant(s) can vary depending on the desired effect of the medicant(s) on surrounding tissue. As a non-limiting example, medicant(s) can be provided to influence hemostasis, inflammation, macrophages, and/or fibroblasts. When used in conjunction with a surgical stapler, the adjunct(s) can be disposed between and/or on jaws of the stapler, incorporated into a staple cartridge disposed in the jaws, or otherwise placed in proximity to the staples. When staples are deployed, the adjunct(s) can remain at the treatment site with the staples.

摘要: A surgical instrument comprising a surgical end effector that includes a first jaw and a second jaw, wherein one of the first and second jaws is selectively movable relative to the other of the first and second jaws upon application of a closure motion to the surgical end effector. In one form, a proximal closure member is configured to be axially advanced a complete closure stroke distance upon application of a closure actuation motion thereto. A distal closure member movably interfaces with the proximal closure member such that the distal closure member moves an axial closure distance in response to axial movement of the proximal closure member through the complete closure stroke distance to thereby cause the distal closure member to apply the closure motion to the surgical end effector. In at least one arrangement, the axial closure distance is less than the complete closure stroke distance.

摘要: A sterile barrier is provided for use with a surgical robotic system. The sterile barrier can include a housing configured to mate with a tool driver mated to a robotic arm and to removably receive a surgical tool. The housing of the sterile barrier has a sterile flexible fabric extending therefrom such that the housing and the flexible fabric are formed in more than one plane and define a sterile side on which the surgical tool is disposed and a non-sterile side on which the tool driver and the robotic arm are disposed. The housing has an opening for receiving the surgical tool. The housing can have at least one electrical contact configured to operably mate with at least one complementary electrical contact on at least one of the tool driver and the robotic arm.

A central articulation link is pivotally coupled to the elongate shaft assembly for pivotal travel relative thereto. An intermediate link is movably coupled to the articulation driver and the central articulation link. An end effector driver is movably coupled to the central articulation link and the surgical end effector.

摘要: A surgical instrument includes a body, a shaft assembly, and an end effector. The end effector a first jaw, a second jaw, and a staple cartridge. The first jaw has an anvil that is configured to form a plurality of staples. The first jaw is movable relative to the second jaw from an open configuration toward a closed configuration for capturing the tissue therebetween and forming the staples therein. The staple cartridge includes a plurality of staples, a body, and a deck. The body is received by the second jaw. The deck has a plurality of staple pockets such that the plurality of staples are configured to pass through staple pockets. The deck is configured to selectively move relative to the body from a first position to a second position for adjusting a height of the deck relative to the anvil while the body is received in the second jaw.

The middle portion comprises a first pillar, a second pillar, and an interconnecting member. The first pillar and the second pillar extend substantially between the first portion and the second portion. The interconnecting member is configured to engage at least the first pillar and the second pillar. When the compressible adjunct is compressed by a force, the first pillar is configured to deflect a first deflection and the second pillar is configured to deflect a second deflection. The first deflection differs from the second deflection.

摘要: A buttress assembly is configured to temporarily adhere to a wet surgical stapler end effector. The buttress assembly includes a buttress body and a humidity tolerant adhesive. The adhesive includes a bioabsorbable polymer having a block configuration selected from the group consisting of A-B-A and A-B-C. The A block is a bioabsorbable homopolymer characterized by a glass transition temperature of at least about 0° C., a crystallinity as measured by X-ray diffraction of at least about 30%, and a melting temperature of at least about 50° C. The B block is a bioabsorbable homopolymer or co-polymer that is characterized by a glass transition temperature of at least about −40° C., a crystallinity as measured by X-ray diffraction of at most about 25%, and 2 a molecular weight of from about 20 to about 80 kDa. The C block is a bioabsorbable hydrophilic homopolymer or co-polymer that is miscible with water at 37° C.

摘要: Adjunct material to provide drug elution is a variety of different temporal and/or spatial patterns is provided. In general, a biocompatible adjunct having a plurality of distinct regions is configured to be delivered to tissue by deployment of staples in a cartridge body of a surgical stapler. Each of the distinct regions can be disposed at a different location on the adjunct material and can have a different adjunct construction. At least two of the regions releasably retain at least one medicant and each of the at least one medicants is releasable from one of the regions in a non-homogeneous manner with respect to at least one of time of release and location of release.
