Abstract: This disclosure details integrated thermal management systems for thermally managing electrified vehicle components. Exemplary integrated thermal management systems may include a thermal module assembly that may be integrated into a front end structure of a flexible modular platform of the electrified vehicle. The integrated thermal management systems may be controlled in a plurality of distinct thermal control modes for thermal managing various subcomponents and for addressing various vehicle auxiliary loads (e.g., passenger cabin heating loads, passenger cabin cooling loads, etc.).

Abstract: This disclosure details a coolant distribution module as used in a thermal management systems for thermally managing electrified vehicle components. An exemplary coolant distribution module includes a module body including a plurality of inlet ports and a plurality of outlet ports, a first manifold valve encompassed within the module body, and a second manifold valve encompassed within the module body. The first manifold valve includes a plurality of first valve inputs wherein each first valve input is in communication with at least one inlet port of the plurality of inlet ports, and a plurality of first valve outputs wherein each first valve output is in communication with at least one outlet port of the plurality of outlet ports. The second manifold valve includes a plurality of second valve inputs wherein each second valve input is in communication with at least one inlet port of the plurality of inlet ports, and a plurality of second valve outputs wherein each second valve output is in communication with at least one outlet port of the plurality of outlet ports.

Abstract: A vehicle having a heating and cooling system includes a refrigerant loop having first and second heat exchangers, and a coolant loop. The coolant loop is connected to allow a first flow of coolant to be directed through at least one of a plurality of air-to-coolant heat exchangers and at least one component for regulating a temperature of the at least component, and to allow a second flow of coolant to be directed through at least one other of the plurality of air-to-coolant heat exchangers and the at least one component for regulating the temperature of the at least one component dependent upon a mode of operation. A control module, control unit, controller, or the like commonly used in vehicles controls the first and second flows of coolant dependent upon the mode of operation.

Abstract: A method and system for an electric vehicle include a controller and a battery cooling system. The controller automatically detects when the vehicle is being driven to a charging station. The controller controls the battery cooling system to pre-cool a traction battery of the vehicle as the vehicle is being driven to the charging station so that the traction battery is cooled to a target temperature upon the vehicle reaching the charging station. The battery cooling system includes a phase change material (PCM) surrounding at least a portion of the traction battery. The traction battery is pre-cooled by circulating refrigerant coolant to the PCM to cool the PCM and thereby pre-cool the traction battery.
