    Abstract: A rotor for an electric machine includes strengthened structural elements effected through surface alloying and heating via an induction heating fixture. A rotor includes laminations formed to have internal cavities and structural members adjacent the cavities. A number of the laminations are stacked to form a lamination stack. An alloying material is applied to the lamination stack at the structural members. The lamination stack is placed in a fixture so that an inductor extends along the structural members and cooling elements extend through the cavities. A current is applied to the inductor to heat the structural members, alloying the alloying material into the structural members.

    Abstract: A rotor core for an electric motor includes a core stack including a plurality of lamination plates, each lamination plate including a plurality of apertures formed therein, the plurality of apertures of each of the lamination plates axially aligned and defining a plurality of axial magnet slots extending through the core stack and adapted to support a plurality of permanent magnets therein, and at least one insert extending axially through the core stack and adapted to provide radial structural stability to the plurality of lamination plates to prevent portions of the plurality of lamination plates adjacent the plurality of magnet slots from flexing due to radial forces exerted on the plurality of lamination plates during operation of the electric motor.

    Abstract: A mobile power source apparatus includes a mobile unit having a platform structure, a frame connected to the platform structure and multiple wheels rotatably connected to the platform structure to promote moving the mobile unit. An electronics power module is connected to a DC power source defining a high voltage DC battery. The electronics power module converts DC energy of the DC battery to at least one of an alternating current (AC) power and a direct current (DC) power. A wireless communication device promotes wireless communication of a battery state-of-charge (SOC) of the high voltage DC battery. A liquid cooling thermal system provides positive cooling of the electronics power module.

    Abstract: An electric machine includes a stator and a rotor positioned in operational engagement with one another and defining a radial gap extending circumferentially between the stator and the rotor, the rotor including a plurality of rotor segments defining a plurality of segment gaps between adjacent pairs of the plurality of rotor segments, the rotor segments radially moveable relative to the stator, wherein movement of the plurality of rotor segments radially outward increases the radial gap between the stator and the rotor and the segment gaps between adjacent pairs of the plurality of rotor segments.
