    摘要: An orthopaedic screw having a plurality of regions, at least one of which may be porous. The orthopaedic screw includes a head, a tip and at least one thread. The porosity of the screw of the present invention can vary within the part or region, including changes in pore shape, size and density. These characteristics can vary along the length of the screw axis and/or radially (from the outer diameter to the axis). The orthopaedic screw may further include at least one solid region formed of any implantable polymer, reinforced polymer or metal.

    摘要: The invention herein describe reduces the concerns associated with the use of intramedullary instrumentation by providing for the reduction of pressure within the medullary canal as the intramedullary instrument is inserted. Specifically, in the preferred embodiment a sleeve having a proximal end connected to a vacuum source is fitted over the intramedullary rod so that as the rod is inserted into the intramedullary canal, the pressure within the canal is reduced to thereby reduce the magnitude of cells released into the blood stream. In order to draw air from the medullary canal, the proximal end of the sleeve includes a gasket which seal against the intramedullary rod causing the air to be drawn only from the distal end of the sleeve. In an alternative embodiment, an air passage is provided directly through the instrument with the exposed end of the instrument being connected to a vacuum source.

    摘要: A milling guide for connection to an exposed end of a bone for guiding a milling device along the bone to mill away portions of the bone for accommodation of an orthopaedic implant. The guide includes a plurality of walls positioned in intersecting planes, each of the walls including a slot therein for capturing a milling device. A recess in the travel path of the milling device permits the milling device to rotate from the plane of one wall to that of another wall whereby the milling device is not removed from said milling guide during the cutting of intersecting planes on the bone.
