摘要: A method for registering one or more surfaces associated with a bone for implant revision procedures includes a digitizer used to digitize surface points on remaining cement, bone surfaces, or both. The bone is adapted to hold a primary implant and from which the primary implant was removed. The position of the one or more surfaces associated with bone is registered by computing at least one of: a generic set of one or more planes using the surface points or a best match between a known implant geometry and the surface points. A computer-assisted surgical system is also provided to execute the method.

摘要: Described are surgical systems comprising a robotic device comprising a cutting tool, an actuation unit having at least two motorized rotational degrees of freedom about respective rotational axes that are substantially orthogonal to each other, and configured for adjusting a position and orientation of the cutting tool relative to each target plane, a planar mechanism connecting the last segment of the actuation unit to the cutting tool, a passive articulated lockable holding arm supporting the actuation unit, a tracking unit configured to determine in real time the pose of the cutting plane with respect to the coordinate system of the anatomical structure, a control unit configured to determine the pose of the cutting plane with respect to the target plane and to control the actuation unit to bring the cutting plane into alignment with the target plane.

摘要: Customized patient-specific instruments configured to be selectively attached at predetermined locations of a patient's bone are disclosed. The customized patient-specific instruments may include a polymeric body including a bone-facing surface having a customized patient-specific negative contour shaped to match and receive a corresponding positive contour of the patient's bone at the predetermined location. The customized patient-specific instruments also include a metallic coating that defines one or more cutting slots. A method of performing an orthopaedic surgical procedure is also disclosed.

摘要: A system is disclosed herein for providing a kinetic assessment and preparation of a prosthetic joint comprising one or more prosthetic components. The system comprises a prosthetic component including sensors and circuitry configured to measure load, position of load, and joint alignment. The system further includes a remote system for receiving, processing, and displaying quantitative measurements from the sensors. The kinetic assessment measures joint alignment under loading that will be similar to that of a final joint installation. The kinetic assessment can use trial or permanent prosthetic components. Furthermore, adjustments can be made to the applied load magnitude, position of load, and joint alignment by various means to fine-tune an installation. The kinetic assessment increases both performance and reliability of the installed joint by reducing error that is introduced by elements that load or modify the joint dynamics not taken into account by prior assessment methods.

摘要: Provided is a method for designing a patient-specific surgical device for performing knee surgery, which includes determining a first alignment axis and/or a second alignment axis from a knee joint in extension and/or flexion respectively and subsequently designing said surgical device based on the first and/or second alignment axes. Also provided is a method of manufacturing a patient-specific surgical device designed by the aforementioned method. A patient-specific surgical device designed and/or manufactured by the above methods and a method of performing knee surgery with said patient-specific surgical device is further provided.

摘要: Described within are systems, methods and apparatus for a bone mounted robotic-assisted orthopedic surgery system for precise implant position, soft tissue balancing and guidance of tools during a surgical procedure, particularly partial or total knee replacement procedure. The system features a bone mounted robotic arm with end-effector for precise positioning of surgical tool, positioning of implants and balancing of soft tissues. The reconfigurable robotic system requires minimal training by surgeons, is intuitive to use similar to conventional instrumented surgery and has a small footprint. The system works with existing, conventional instruments, patient specific instruments, sensor-assisted systems and computer-assisted systems and does not require increased surgical time and safely provides the enhanced precision achievable by robotic-assisted systems and computer-assisted technologies.
