摘要: A retention system for maintaining a screw to a vertebral plate is described herein. One or more screws extend through apertures within the vertebral plate. A cavity is positioned adjacent to and overlaps into the aperture. A ring is positioned within the cavity and held in position by a cap. The cap attaches to the plate to prevent removal of the ring. The ring is deflectable between a first shape to allow the screw to be inserted and removed from the aperture, and a second shape to prevent screw back-out from the aperture.

摘要: A retention system for maintaining a screw to a vertebral plate. One or more screws extend through apertures within the vertebral plate. A cavity is positioned adjacent to and overlaps into the aperture. A ring is positioned within the cavity and held in position by a cap. The cap attaches to the plate to prevent removal of the ring. The ring is deflectable between a first shape to allow the screw to be inserted and removed from the aperture, and a second shape to prevent screw back-out from the aperture. A method of using the system is also included and comprises positioning the ring within a cavity in the plate, maintaining the position of the ring to the plate by attaching a cap, inserting a screw through the aperture and attaching the plate to a vertebral member, and positioning the ring over the screw head and preventing the screw from backing-out.

摘要: A bone anchor assembly is provided, which may be used in cervical, thoracic, lumbar or sacral areas of the spine or other orthopedic locations. The anchor assembly includes a bone engaging portion, a receiver, a saddle within a channel defined by the receiver, and an engaging member. The receiver extends along a central longitudinal axis and is fixed to the bone engaging portion. A rod or other elongated connecting element is received in a channel of the receiver in contact with the saddle, and the engaging member engages the connecting element against the saddle. The orientation of the saddle in the receiver is adjustable to correspond to the orientation of the connecting element relative to the central longitudinal axis at any one of a plurality of angles of the connecting element through the receiver while the receiver and bone engaging portion remain fixed relative to one another.

摘要: The present application is directed to an implant maintained within the patient by a fastener. The implant includes an aperture sized to receive the fastener. A locking member extends across the aperture in a first position. The locking member is constructed of a resilient material that is movable to a second position during insertion of the fastener. Once the fastener is inserted within the aperture below a level of the locking member, the locking member rebounds towards the first position and extends over the fastener. The locking member prevents the fastener from backing out of the implant.

摘要: A bone plate assembly and method of using the same in a patient is disclosed that includes a ratchet mechanism that allows unidirectional incremental adjustment of the overall length of the bone plate assembly. The bone plate assembly is capable of being created to have various stages. One illustrative bone plate assembly includes an intermediate plate component having a first tongue extending upwardly from a central portion of the intermediate plate component and a second tongue extending downwardly from the central portion of the intermediate plate component. First and second end plate components are included that have first and second tongue grooves that are adapted to slidably engage at least a portion of the first and second tongues. A first and second ratchet mechanism is included that allows the first and second end plate components to be incrementally ratcheted toward the central portion of the intermediate plate component.

摘要: Devices and methods for maintaining the position of a screw relative to a vertebral plate. The device includes a plate having one or more screw holes each sized to receive a screw for attaching the plate to the vertebral member(s). A cap may be movably coupled to the plate. In one position the cap may overlap into the screw hole for receiving the bone screw. The bone screw may be inserted into the screw hole and mounted into the bone with the cap overlapping into the screw hole. In one embodiment the screw moves past the cap and may be captured beyond the cap preventing back-out of the screw. The cap may also be moved to a second position to allow for removal of the bone screw from the vertebral member.

摘要: In some aspects, the spinal plates of the present disclosure are sized and shaped for use in a spinal level adjacent to a previously treated spinal level. The spinal plates of the present disclosure are generally no-profile or low-profile plates. That is, the spinal plates are sized and shaped for positioning entirely within the disc space between adjacent vertebrae such that the plates either do not extend beyond the outer boundaries of the vertebrae (no profile) or extend only slightly beyond the outer boundaries of the vertebrae (low profile). The spinal plates of the present disclosure are also configured to receive fixation members, such as bone screws, in a hyper-angulated orientation. The hyper-angulated screws facilitate optimal cortical bone purchase or penetration of the adjacent vertebrae to fixedly secure the spinal plates to the vertebrae.

摘要: A bone screw and method of inserting a bone screw into a bone is disclosed. In one example, the bone screw includes a tip segment for creating a starter hole in the bone. A pilot segment is located proximally of the tip segment for creating a pilot hole in the bone after creation of the starter hole. The starter hole and pilot hole are created by a longitudinal pushing force exerted on the bone screw by the surgeon. A threaded segment is located proximally of the pilot segment for fixedly securing the bone screw in the bone by the use of a rotational force exerted on the bone screw by the surgeon. A head is located proximally of the threaded segment for allowing the bone screw to affix an implant or other soft tissue to the bone. In one embodiment the implant is a plate.
