Such devices and methods automatically generate multiple different routes between the beginning location and the ending location, automatically create a subset of less than all of the user preferences that match the trip purpose to produce purpose-specific preferences, and automatically rank the multiple different routes by ranking routes that match more of the purpose-specific preferences ahead of routes that match less of the purpose-specific preferences to produce a ranked order. Then, such devices and methods automatically output the multiple different routes in the ranked order.

The deskewing system is configured to deskew substrate media. A printing system and method using alternating control modes for one or more, but not all, sheet transport devices in order to avoid contention. In a printer having first, second and third sheet transport devices in series (e.g., registration, image transfer and image fixing devices), the second device can always operate in a velocity control mode. However, the first and/or third devices can alternate between velocity and torque control modes. For example, the first device can operate in a torque control mode, when a sheet is concurrently engaged by both the first and second devices, and in a velocity control mode at other times. Additionally or alternatively, the third device can operate in a torque control mode, when a sheet is concurrently engaged by both the second and third devices, and in a velocity control mode at other times. Transition control modes can be implemented to generate smooth transitions between modes.

The elevator assembly includes a drive and multiple vertically displaced bins that are vertically movable up and down by the drive. The bi-directional transport system transports media in a lateral feed direction from the elevator assembly to the cutting table surface and removes media from the cutting table surface in a lateral direction opposite to the feed direction to the elevator assembly.

According to aspects illustrated herein, a system, a printmaking device, and a method for pre-curling and registering media are provided herein. The system includes a media curler system and a deskew mechanism. The media curler system pre-curls at least one of lead edge and a trail edge of a sheet before delivery to a media hold-down transport. The deskew mechanism is coupled to the media curler system for pivoting the media curler system about a pivot axis to deskew the sheet. The pivot axis extends perpendicular to the media transport path. In operation, as the lead edge enters the pre-curling and registration system, the media curler system pre-curls the sheet towards the media hold-down transport. As the sheet is being pre-curled, the deskew mechanism pivots the media curler system about the pivot axis to correct any skew errors in the sheet.

Alternating coordinated lifting of a nudger roll of one sheet feeder with operation of the opposing sheet feeder, and retard nips spaced from the stack, may be provided.

A printing system includes a first sheet media source dispensing a length of sheet media and a second sheet media source dispensing pre-cut sheets of media. A merging unit is operative to receive the length of sheet media and position pre-cut sheets of media along the same. A marking unit receives and marks images on the length of sheet media as well as the pre-cut sheets positioned thereon. A separating unit is adapted to separate the pre-cut sheets from the length of sheet media. A cutting unit is adapted to divide the length of sheet media into marked and unmarked sheets of media. A sheet receiving unit is operative to receive the marked sheets of media and the pre-cut sheets of media. A method of printing on continuous feed and pre-cut sheet media is also included.
