摘要: A reflective strain gauge includes an holographically-formed polymer dispersed liquid crystal (H-PDLC) film comprising layers of liquid crystal (LC) droplets in a matrix polymer, the H-PDLC film having a reflection or transmission grating capable of reflecting or transmitting light of a selected wavelength, and means for adhering the film to a surface of a workpiece for monitoring the strain at said surface. A change in the nature of the reflected light is an indication of strain. Also included is a polarizing material having an holographically-formed polymer dispersed liquid crystal (H-PDLC) film comprising layers of liquid crystal (LC) droplets in a matrix polymer, the H-PDLC film having a reflection grating capable of reflecting light of a selected wavelength, wherein the reflection grating of the H-PDLC film is oriented, such that the refractive index parallel to said axis of orientation (ne) is greater than the refractive index perpendicular to said axis (no).

摘要: Described are assemblies for screening a compound for bioactivity, the assemblies comprising a tissue and a sensor. A change in a biological parameter is measured by the sensor, such that a change in a parameter occurring when the tissue is contacted with a candidate compound is detected by the sensor. Assemblies provided herein include single sensor/tissue assemblies and arrays of such assemblies, including plates comprising tissues in combination with one or more sensors. Also provided are methods of screening a compound using tissue/sensor tissue assemblies as described.

摘要: In the spectrometric device of this invention the objective lens and diffraction grating are replaced with a spectral imaging apparatus on electrically switchable color filter technology. The spectrometric device includes wavelength filter means as the spectral imaging apparatus for transmitting or reflecting wavelengths of light, light intensity sensor means arranged and disposed to measure the intensity of the wavelengths transmitted or reflected by the wavelength filter means and generate an electrical signal from the wavelengths transmitted or reflected, output processing means connected to the light intensity sensor means to receive and process the output from the light intensity sensor means, and display means connected to the output processing means to display the output.
