Abstract:
A face seal assembly includes a rotationally fixed first component at least partially defining an interior chamber containing a volume of lubricant. The first component includes a rotationally fixed seal element. A rotatable second component is rotatable about an axis of rotation relative to the first component. The second component includes a second component body extending along the axis of rotation from the interior chamber to outside of the interior chamber. An axially facing component surface is located in the interior chamber and is configured to engage with an axially-facing element surface of the seal element to define a seal interface of the face seal. A plurality of fins extend radially outwardly from the second component body in the chamber interior, such that the plurality of fins create a centrifugal force on the volume of lubricant to urge the volume of lubricant away from the seal interface.
Abstract:
Seal assemblies for sealing between a stationary component and a rotating component include a sealing member having a sealing face with an outer diameter sealing face and an inner diameter sealing face. An annular channel is defined in the sealing face between the outer diameter sealing face and an inner diameter sealing face and the sealing member is attached to the stationary component. A rotating mating ring is attached to the rotating component and includes a rotating sealing face and at least one ejection hole extending through the rotating mating ring from the rotating sealing face at an inlet end and a radially outward outlet end.
Abstract:
An engine includes an engine casing and a shaft defining an axis of rotation. The shaft extends through the engine casing. A nose cone is rotatably coupled to the shaft and has a hollow interior. A generator is arranged at least partially within the hollow interior of the nose cone. The generator includes a rotor and a stator. The rotor is rotatably coupled to the shaft. A heat exchanger is mounted adjacent to the generator within the hollow interior of the nose cone. The heat exchanger is fluidly coupled to the generator.
Abstract:
An electric machine assembly includes a stator. The stator includes a core defining a rotational axis, windings assembled into the core, and a back iron heat exchanger mounted to the core, extending around the rotational axis. A plurality of coolant circuits pass from one or more coolant inlets in the back iron heat exchanger through the back iron heat exchanger, to one or more coolant outlets in the back iron heat exchanger. Between the one or more coolant inlets and the one or more coolant outlets, the plurality of cooling circuits are in fluid isolation from one another and from radially inner and outer surfaces of the back iron heat exchanger.
Abstract:
An electric machine includes a stator winding in a stator having a winding end. A jumper has a main base end that is connected to the winding end. A first terminal branch of the jumper has a first terminal for connecting the stator electrically to a first load. A second terminal branch of the jumper has a second terminal for connecting the stator electrically to a second load. A first electrical conduction path is defined from the winding end, through the jumper to the first terminal branch to the first terminal. A second electrical conduction path is defined from the winding end, through the jumper to the second terminal branch to the second terminal. The first electrical conduction path has an electrical resistance substantially equal to that of the second electrical conduction path for electrical load balancing from the winding end to the first and second terminals.
Abstract:
Embodiments of an end winding support and heat sink for a pole of a generator are provided. An aspect includes a flat plate portion, the flat plate portion comprising an internal cooling liquid channel that routes coolant through the flat plate portion. Another aspect includes a plurality of fins extending out from the flat plate portion, wherein wires of the windings of the generator are supported by the plurality of fins.

Abstract:
A pressure switch including a pressure chamber and a moving disc. The moving disc is moveable in response to a pressure in the pressure chamber to cause contact between a moveable contact and a fixed contact. An orifice communicates a fluid pressure into the pressure chamber. The orifice provides a tortuous path for a fluid flow to reach the pressure chamber. An oil supply system and a generator are also disclosed.
