Abstract:
MICROBIOLOGICAL PROCESS FOR PREPARING 17-OXYGENATED ANDROSTANES BY SUBJECTING 20-OXYGENATED PREGNANES TO THE ACTION OF A CULTURE OF THE FUNGUS GLIOCLADIUM ROSEUM. THE STEROIDS PREPARED ARE KNOW COMPOUNDS WHICH ARE PHARMACEUTICALLY USEFUL AS ANDROGENIC AGENTS AND AS INTERMEDIATES WHICH CAN BE CONVERTED TO KNOWN COMPOUNDS WHICH ARE PROGESTATIONAL AGENTS.
Abstract:
A process for obtaining zeaxanthin by fermentation utilizing one of two bacterial species which belong to the genus Flavobacter and which are deposited under ATCC 21,588 and ATCC 21,081.
Abstract:
THE SPIROSTAN DERIVATIVE 1,2,3,4,10,19-HEXANOR-5-OXO5,9-SECO-25D-SPIROSTAN-5-OIC ACID IS OBTAINED BY THE MICROBIOLOGICAL DEGRADATION OF DISOGENIN UTILIZING PROACTINOMYCES RESTRICTUS TURFITT CBS 157.45 OR ENZYMES DERIVED THEREFROM. THE AFORESAID SPIROSTAN DERIVATIVE IS USEFUL AS AN INTERMEDIATE IN THE SYNTHESIS OF MEDICINALLY VALUABLE 9B,10A-STEROIDS AND NORSTEROIDS.
Abstract:
A new series of 15 Beta ,16 Beta -methylene pregnanes is disclosed and methods for their preparation are described. The compounds are particularly useful as antiinflammatory agents.
Abstract:
Antibiotics having antitumor and antibacterial activity are produced by fermentation of thermophilic actimomycetes Streptomyces refuineus var. thermotolerans, having NRRL numbers 3,143 and 3,144, in a nutrient medium containing a protein source and a carbohydrate source, at 35* C. to 55* C., extracting the fermentation broth with a solvent and isolating the active fraction.
