    摘要: Disclosed is an improved method of conducting electrolysis where a first electrode and a second electrode are inserted in an electrolyte, and an electrical current passes from one of the electrodes to the other electrode. At least one of the electrodes has an oxide coating formed in situ on an electroconductive substrate. According to the disclosed method, an external portion of the coating is abraded to expose an inner portion of the coating.

    摘要: Disclosed is a method of electrolyzing alkali metal chloride brines by passing an electrical current from an anode in an aqueous alkali metal chloride anolyte liquor through a permeable barrier to a cathode in an aqueous catholyte liquor, whereby to evolve chlorine at the anode and hydrogen at the cathode. Also disclosed is the addition of a compound of an electrolytic hydrogen evolution catalyzing transition metal to the catholyte liquor while passing electrical current from the anode to the cathode. The addition of the compound of the transition metal through the catholyte liquor causes a reduction in the cell voltage.

    摘要: Disclosed is a method of casting silicon metal. Silicon metal expands upon solidification. According to the disclosed method a void volume of from 1 to 10 percent of the silicon metal, basis molten silicon metal, is established within the molten silicon metal. The void volume is capable of being decreased in volume upon the solidification of the silicon metal. In this way, the increase in volume of the silicon metal upon solidification is offset.
