摘要: Pig-iron is refined into steel by blowing oxygen and a protective screen of an encasing gas through injecting means located at or near the bottom of a converter containing a melt of molten metal. The encasing gas while protecting the injecting means, allows it to be consumed at substantially the same rate as the bottom of the converter so that the injecting means is not left projecting from the bottom of the converter. The encasing gas can be one which is inert to the melt or the metal of the injecting means or both, or it can be a gas which reacts sluggishly with the melt or the material of the oxygen feed pipe or both. Desirably, the oxygen jet is circular in cross-section and the encasing gas is in the form of a concentric jet.A converter for carrying out the method is made up of a pear-shaped sheet-steel casing having a refractory lining and an inserted bottom provided with nozzles in the form of metal tubes for the oxygen and encasing gas. Preferably, a substantial portion (for example about half) of the converter bottom is free of nozzles. The nozzles can be arranged in groups and there can be rows running parallel with the tilting axis of the converter. The nozzles may also be arranged to cause circulation of the molten metal in the converter. The nozzles can be constructed to provide for swirling movement of the encasing gas. Examples of encasing gas which may be used are hydrogen, nitrogen, noble-gases, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, ammonia, hydrogen-fluoride, furnace-mouth gas, coke-oven gas, natural gas and other gases containing hydrocarbons.

摘要: Molten steel, normally exposed to an atmosphere of air, is protected against impurities by placing a gas containing a major amount of carbon dioxide gas in such quantities and in such proximity to the surface to cause dissociation of the carbon dioxide at a rate which provides a gas barrier or shroud isolating the steel from the surrounding atmosphere. This method may be applied to protecting certain molten steels being transferred from a ladle to a mold, or from a ladle to a tundish and from the tundish to a mold in continuous casting. In a method where a number of shrouding operations are carried out in series, gas under pressure is bled, in increments, from a storage vessel containing a body of liquid carbon dioxide in an overlying ullage space containing vapor. Each increment is ultimately expanded and dispersed at ambient temperature to form the shroud. As each increment of vapor is removed from the vessel, it is replace by withdrawing liquid carbon dioxide, vaporizing it and returning it to the ullage space.

摘要: Molten steel, normally exposed to an atmosphere of air, is protected against pick-up of impurities by placing carbon dioxide gas in such quantities and in such proximity to the surface to cause dissociation of the carbon dioxide at a rate which furnishes an atmosphere of carbon monoxide and gives off a negligible amount of oxygen to the steel, thus providing a gas barrier or shroud isolating the steel from the surrounding atmosphere and preventing pick-up therefrom of oxygen, nitrogen or hydrogen. This method may be applied to protecting steel being transferred from a ladle to a mold, or from a ladle to a tundish and from the tundish to a mold in continuous casting. In a method where a number of shrouding operations are carried out in series, carbon dioxide vapor, under pressure, is bled, in increments, from a storage vessel containing a body of liquid carbon dioxide in overlying ullage space containing vapor. Each increment is superheated, after it leaves the vessel, and is ultimately expanded and dispersed at ambient temperature to form the shroud. As each increment of vapor is removed from the vessel, it is replaced by withdrawing liquid carbon dioxide, vaporizing it and returning it to the ullage space.

摘要: A food container is divided into two compartments by a vertically extending partition wall. A user selects which of the two compartments will hold a food product and which compartment will receive inedible parts of the food product after edible part of the food product is consumed. A snap-on lid closes the container to retain the food product and discarded inedible parts inside the container. Flap openings in the lid allow access to the compartments.

摘要: In various example embodiments, a system and method for data mesh-based environmental augmentation are presented. Attribute data associated with a user may be received from a plurality of attribute sources. A portion of the attribute data may include real-time data. A portion of the real-time data indicative of an identity of the user may be identified. The identity of the user may be authenticated with respect to the real-time data by analyzing the identified portion of the real-time data. Based on the authentication of the identity of the user, a user activity being performed by the user may be identified based on the real-time data, and the user activity may be augmented according to a user setting.

摘要: An interface system includes a secure digital (SD) driver module to communicate with an SD card over a bus, a secure digital input/output (SDIO) driver module to communicate with an SDIO card over the bus, and an input/output port. A method of operating a host in the interface system includes coupling the bus to the SD card while a first mode is enabled, coupling the bus to the SDIO card while a second mode is enabled, and enabling the first mode in response to a request for access to the SD card. The method includes, while the first mode is enabled, (i) listening for a notification signal arriving from the SDIO card via the input/output port, indicating that an interrupt is pending at the SDIO card, and (ii) in response to the notification signal, enabling the second mode to allow the SDIO card to transmit the interrupt to the host.

摘要: A riser for use in subsea operations that is parked subsea deployed as needed onto wellheads disposed proximate where the riser is parked. A base anchored into the seafloor provides a pedestal for parking the riser. The riser emits a beacon signal so it can be located when needed. When parked, the riser can be kept in a vertical orientation by a buoyancy module mounted on an upper portion of the riser. A workboat, or other vessel, attaches to the parked riser and positions it onto a designated wellhead. An extension connects the riser to platform or other vessel above the sea surface.

摘要: An underwater plow can include a depressor cam and a chute cam that are pivotably attached to a blade portion. The blade portion can be formed with a trough and the depressor cam can be biased in the trough. The chute cam can be formed with a groove having a minimum thickness at its attached end and an increasing taper to a maximum thickness at its distal end. A sensor passing through the plow contacts the edge of the depressor cam, causing depressor cam rotation away from the trough. The sensor passes the depressor cam and pushes against the chute cam, which causes the chute cam to contra-rotate relative to the depressor cam until the sensor passes through the chute arm at is maximum thickness. Once the sensor passes through, the cams contra-rotate back to their respective biased positions.
