    摘要: Basic polypyrrylenemethines, and salts thereof, having conjugated double bonds and constructed from optionally substituted five-membered heterocyclic rings containing nitrogen, as the only hetero atom in the ring are disclosed, with the five-membered rings, in each case, being bonded to one another in pairs via an optionally substituted carbon atom as a bridging member. The polymer compositions of the invention contain at least five of these five-membered rings and 0 to 50%, relative to the weight of these polymers, of dopants and/or being electrochemically doped. A process for the preparation of the claimed compositions is further disclosed. The polymer compositions of the invention have electroconducting and semi-conducting properties and are useful, for example, in batteries, circuits and switches, if appropriately used in conjunction with other polymers. In addition, the compounds of the invention can also be employed as absorbents for heavy metals and as catalysts.

    摘要: A scraper for an optical surface of a device is disclosed. The scraper includes a blade having an edge that is rigid and non-deforming to withstand high shear stresses. The blade is configured to rotate about a first axis parallel to the optical surface and also configured to move in a line with respect to a second axis perpendicular to the optical surface. This allows the rigid, non-deforming blade to maintain contact with the optical surface. Furthermore, the edge is configured to move across the optical surface to remove any materials adhered to the surface. The scraper can be used to clean the optical surface of an instrument, for example.

    摘要: A fiber detector apparatus includes a hub having one or more electrical contacts. The hub is configured to be placed against a connector, which is disposed on an electromagnetic energy source, such that electrical continuity is established between the electrical contacts of the hub and electrical contacts on a connector plate of the electromagnetic energy source. The number and positions of the electrical contacts correlate with the presence and characteristics of one or more fibers extending through the hub toward the electromagnetic energy source. A data storage microcircuit may also be provided within the hub to store identification information about the fibers being used. Knowing the physical characteristics of the fibers being used in a particular procedure can permit a user of the apparatus to improve the effectiveness of a procedure using the electromagnetic energy.

Such a method of coating of boron has a variety of applications, including surface chemical and wear protection, neutron absorption, prevention of impurity emission from heated filaments and ion beams, elimination of metal dust from vacuum systems, boridizing, boron cluster emission, and reactive chemistry. Borides with a boron-to-metal ratio of 20 or more are known to exist and may be used as a feedstock for substantially pure boron coatings for deposition processes requiring feedstock electrical conductivity, and/or enhanced reactivity. While most metal borides coincidentally produce significant metal vapor as a by-product, certain borides of yttrium, holmium, erbium, thulium, terbium, gadolinium, and lutetium have been identified as capable of producing substantially pure boron vapor.
