摘要: An optical receiving method utilizing polarization diversity is disclosed in which first and second reference lightwaves having different frequencies and having polarization planes substantially perpendicular to each other, are combined with a signal lightwave to form a combined lightwave. The combined lightwave is subjected to heterodyne detection to obtain a detection signal and the detection signal is separated into first and second intermediate-frequency signals having different carrier frequencies. The first and second intermediate-frequency signals are converted into first and second baseband signals, respectively, and the first and second baseband signals are added to obtain an output signal.

摘要: An optical filter is formed by providing a plurality of gaps, which have a desired width and such a depth that is larger than the thickness of the waveguide layer, in a slab or a waveguide layer in a three-dimensional optical waveguide so as to extend in the light propagating direction at desired period intervals. These gaps are filled with a film of a material, the refractive index of which is different from that of the waveguide layer, to complete the optical filter. A multiplex wavelength transmission device is formed monolithically by providing at least one optical filter, which is formed in the above-mentioned manner, in an optical waveguide, and arranging one or both of a light-emitting semiconductor element and a photodetector on the side of an optical signal which has passed through the optical filter, and on the side of an optical signal which has been reflected on the same optical filter.

摘要: An optical star coupler having a biconically tapered optical star coupler inserted and suspended in a protection tube and the method for manufacturing the same are disclosed. The manufacturing method provides that an optical fiber bundle is inserted into a protection tube such as hollow glass tube, then the optical fiber bundle is twisted and pulled while it is indirectly heated through the protection tube, thereby forming a twisting, fusing and pulling portion. Both ends of the protection tube are then sealed with an adhesive agent to fix the optical fiber bundle to the protection tube. This optical star coupler can be constructed so as to be connected in tandem without any splicing. The optical star coupler of the present invention, in the case of an optical star coupler using multi-mode optical fibers, and particularly in the case of one equally divided optical star coupler using single-mode optical fiber, also provides low insertion loss, less power deviation and low manufacturing costs.

摘要: An object of the present invention is to provide a linear actuator in which reliability is improved, and performance is also easily improved. The present invention provides a linear actuator including a stator, a movable element having an iron member, and being reciprocatable with respect to the stator, a permanent magnet fixed to the stator so as to be opposed to the iron member, and a coil fixed to the stator. Because both the coil and the permanent magnet are fixed to the stator, electrical current does not have to be supplied to the movable element, and the feeder lines connected to the coil will not be broken due to the movement of the movable element. In addition, the weight of the movable element will not be increased even when the weigh of the permanent magnet is increased in order to obtain high magnetic flux density for improvement in performance. Moreover, because the movable element does not include a magnet, a magnetizing operation does not have to be applied to the movable element. The permanent magnets may be a pair in which the directions the magnetic poles thereof differ from each other, and two pairs of permanent magnets may be provided. The number of magnetic fluxes that run through the magnetic pole elements and the iron member can be increased by providing a magnetic reluctance section around the permanent magnets.
