    摘要: An optical disc 1 has formed in an area inside the inner circumference of an information recording area 2 formed thereon concentric or spiral continuous or discontinuous recesses 4a at a lager pitch than the track pitch in the information recording area 2. The optical disc is manufactured by installing a hub 5 substantially in the center of an optical disc substrate with reference to the recesses 4a by positioning the hub 5 with respect to the optical disc substrate. A stamper for manufacturing the optical disc substrates is produced by exposing a photoresist layer 11 to a laser beam by turning on and off the laser beam while rotating a glass substrate 10 having the photoresist layer 11 applied thereon and scanning the laser beam radially of the glass substrate 10.

A liquid crystal display 100 of the present invention includes, in sequence: a light source device 14 that emits a parallel light beam; a back surface-side polarizer 16; a liquid crystal cell 13; a display surface-side polarizer 11; and a light diffusion layer 15. The liquid crystal display 100 further includes: a selective light-shielding layer 12 between the display surface-side polarizer 11 and the light diffusion layer 15 so that the selective light-shielding layer 12 shields light that is generated by being depolarized and scattered in the liquid crystal cell 13 and travels in a direction that is different from a direction in which the parallel light beam travels.

A light diffusing element according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: a first region having a first refractive index; a refractive index modulation region having a substantially spherical shell shape, which surrounds the first region; and a second region having a second refractive index, which is positioned on a side of the refractive index modulation region opposite to the first region. The light diffusing element has a haze of 90% to 99.9% and a depolarization factor of 0.2% or less.

    摘要: The present invention provides a color liquid crystal panel in an o-mode of an IPS mode, which has a multi-gap structure, and in which a contrast in an oblique direction is enhanced.A first polarizer 1 is provided on a color filter 6 side of a liquid crystal cell 10 and a second polarizer 8 is provided on a liquid crystal layer 5 side of the liquid crystal cell 10. Further, a retardation film 2 is provided between the second polarizer 8 and the liquid crystal cell 10. The liquid crystal cell 10 has a configuration in which the color filter 6 is laminated on a glass substrate 3, and a liquid crystal layer 5 is interposed between the color filter 6 and a glass substrate 7. Regarding the thickness of the liquid crystal layer 5, a thickness dB of a region in contact with the blue color filter 6B is smallest, and a thickness dG of a region in contact with the green color filter 6G and a thickness dR of a region in contact with the red color filter 6R increase in this order. That is, the liquid crystal cell 10 has a multi-gap structure in which the thickness of the liquid crystal layer 5 varies depending upon the colors of the color filter 6.

    摘要: A light-diffusing layer 16 having at least a bicontinuous phase structure is formed by coating a substrate 14a with a coating liquid composition containing a plurality of resins being different in refractive index with each other, drying the substrate, and heating the resultant to cause spinodal decomposition from the resin-containing layer on a transparent substrate. A transparent conductive layer (or a transparent electrode) 17 may be formed on the light-diffusing layer 16 of the substrate 14a. A liquid crystal cell 13 of a reflective liquid crystal display apparatus may be formed by facing the transparent conductive layer 17 with a reflection electrode 19 formed on the other substrate 14b, and sealing a liquid crystal 18 between a pair of electrodes, 17 and 19. The present invention, therefore, provides a light-diffusing layer capable of uniformly and brightly displaying an image on a screen in a reflective liquid crystal display apparatus of an internal light-diffusing layer system in which the light-diffusing layer is formed on a substrate of a liquid crystal cell.

    摘要: A transmittable light-scattering sheet (a transmitting type light-scattering sheet) of the present invention comprises a plurality of layers, each having a bicontinuous structure composed of a plurality of polymers. The layers differ from each other in average period size of the bicontinuous structure. The sheet may comprise, for example, a first layer having a bicontinuous structure (e.g., the average period size of the bicontinuous structure of 1.5 to 4 &mgr;m) and a second layer each having a bicontinuous structure (e.g., the larger average period size of the bicontinuous structure than that of the first layer by 0.5 to 8 &mgr;m). In the sheet, the first layer may be next to the second layer. The ratio of the period size of the first layer to that of the second layer may be the first layer/the second layer=1.3/1 to 4/1. Such a sheet can impart a directionality to a reflected light.
