摘要: An illumination system (8) comprises an optical waveguide (18) which is made from optically transparent components and has four end faces (10, 10′). A light source (12) whose light is coupled into the optical waveguide (18) via one of the end faces (10), is situated opposite this end face (10). The optical waveguide (18) has a light guide (30). A number of fibers (34) are attached to a surface (32) of the light guide (30). The fibers (34) have birefringent properties. A preferred method of providing the birefringent properties is to stretch fibers (34) of a suitable polymer plastic material in their longitudinal direction. The light from the light source (12) will be polarized by the fibers (34) and polarized light will be outcoupled from the optical waveguide (18) via an exit surface (16). The illumination system (8) may be used for front or back lightning of LCD panels for e.g. mobile phones, PDA's, etc.

摘要: The invention relates to an illumination system (50), a beam-control element and a light source (30). The illumination system comprises the light source for emitting a light beam and a beam-control element for controlling the shape and/or direction of the light beam. The beam-control element comprises a resilient layer (2a) and a further layer (4a) being arranged substantially parallel to each other, the resilient layer comprising a relief (21) on a surface of the resilient layer arranged substantially parallel to the further layer, or the further layer comprising the relief on a surface of the further layer facing the resilient layer. The illumination system further comprises moving means (52) for moving the resilient layer and the further layer with respect to each other for reducing the relief by applying a pressure between the resilient layer and the further layer. The relief controls the shape and/or direction of the light-beam. When the relief is reduced by applying pressure, the light beam is substantially unaltered by the beam-control element.

摘要: The invention provides a light-emitting arrangement (100, 200, 300), comprising: a light source (101, 201, 301) adapted to emit light of a first wavelength; a wavelength converting member (106, 206, 306) comprising a wavelength converting material adapted to receive light of said first wavelength and to convert at least part of the received light to light of a second wavelength; a sealing structure (103) at least partially surrounding said wavelength converting member to form a sealed cavity (105, 205, 305) containing at least said wavelength converting member, said cavity containing a controlled atmosphere; and a getter material (108, 208, 308) arranged within said sealed cavity, wherein said getter material is adapted to operate in the presence of water and/or produces water as a reaction product. Such getter materials have high capacity for removal of oxygen from the atmosphere within the sealed cavity, such that a low oxygen concentration can be maintained within the cavity. Hence, the lifetime of the wavelength converting material may be prolonged.

摘要: The invention relates to a lighting apparatus (1) for generating a light pattern. A light source (4) generates a light beam (5) for being directed onto a liquid crystal cell (2). The liquid crystal cell (2) comprises a periodic structure (3). If voltage is applied to the liquid crystal cell (2) by a voltage source (8), a period phase pattern is generated. The liquid crystal cell (2) and the light source (4) are adapted such that multiple separate light beams (6) are generated in different directions by diffraction at the generated periodic phase pattern, wherein the multiple separate light beams (6) form the light pattern (7). Since the light pattern is generated by diffraction at the periodic phase pattern, which is modifiable by applying voltage, different light patterns can be generated, in particular, for decorative purposes, in a technically relatively simple way.

摘要: Optical faceplates and methods for manufacturing same are disclosed. An optical faceplate (10) includes a substrate (12) having a major surface, and an array (15) of optical fibers embossed on the substrate. The optical fibers have a length determined in accordance with a layer of material deposited on the substrate from which the optical fibers are formed, a depth of the features in a mold or stamp and a number of processing/stamping steps. A method includes forming (202) a layer on a substrate having a major surface, and processing (204) the layer to form an array of optical fibers transversely disposed to the major surface.
