A method and apparatus for efficiently transmitting channel quality information on a radio channel in a mobile communication system are provided. The reporting cycle of channel quality information is changed adaptively according to time-varying characteristics associated with the Doppler frequency of a radio channel or the variation of the channel quality information. Therefore, the channel quality information is efficiently transmitted. Also, the decrease of unnecessary frequent information transmissions reduces an uplink interference power level and power consumption in user equipment (UE), as well.

An apparatus and method for receiving a signal in a MIMO communication system are provided. In the signal receiving method, a first received signal received at each of the receive antennas is equalized in a predetermined first method. Each of the equalized transmit antenna signals is despread with a plurality of spreading codes used in a transmitter. The strongest transmit antenna signal is detected among the despread transmit antenna signals, and decoded in a predetermined second method, for error verification. The verified strongest transmit antenna signal is reproduced as an interference signal. A second received signal is generated by subtracting the interference signal from the first received signal and equalized in the first method. The above operation is repeated on the equalized transmit antenna signals except the strongest transmit antenna signal.

In the apparatus and method, data is transmitted through at least one transmit antenna. A Node B groups sub-carriers available to the OFDM system into sub-carrier groups, each having at least two sub-carriers, transmits data to the UE on sub-carriers in the sub-carrier groups, selects at least one sub-carrier group for the UE based on channel condition information about each of the sub-carrier groups received from the UE, and assigns the selected sub-carrier group to the UE.

A receiver of a mobile communication system, which transmits/receives data at a high speed by means of the plurality of transmission antennas and the plurality of reception antennas, estimates a transmission signal of a specific path from a first received signal according to a preset criterion, measures an error component for each symbol of the estimated transmission signal, performs an error correction for symbols having a corresponding error component exceeding a preset value, detects transmission data from all symbols through a predetermined signal reverse-processing procedure, reconstructs a transmission signal from the transmission data, subtracts the reconstructed transmission signal from the received signal to generate a second received signal, and repeats the above operations until transmission data of all paths are detected from the second received signal.

An apparatus and a method capable of effectively allocating sub-carriers for a plurality of users and transmitting the sub-carriers to users through multiple antennas in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDMA) mobile communication system are provided. A sub-carrier allocation method reduces transmission power by taking a desired bit rate and power budget into consideration. The sub-carriers are optimally allocated to each antenna, so that peak to average power ratio (PARR) is reduced and Quality of Service (QoS) is improved. The apparatus and the method are adaptable for multi-users and obtain space diversity gain through multiple antennas.

A bit interleaving is performed with respect to parity bits among coded bits output through a channel coding unit, thereby preventing a repetition period of the parity bits from matching a puncturing period for a rate matching. A bit de-interleaving is performed with respect to the parity bits during a channel decoding process, so that the parity bits have a repetition period identical to initial parity bits. Thus, the repetition period of the parity bits is not matched with the puncturing period for the rate matching, thereby preventing performance degradation during the channel decoding process.

In an apparatus for data transmission in a communication system, a turbo encoder encodes data bits to generate systematic bits and parity bits, and a rate matcher matches the systematic bits and parity bits. A first interleaver writes the rate-matched systematic bits on a row by row basis, and performs inter-column permutation. A second interleaver writes the rate-matched parity bits on a row-by-row basis, and performs inter-column permutation. A modulator alternatively collects the permutated bits on a column by column basis from the first and second interleavers, and maps collected bits from the first and second interleavers onto one modulation symbol, wherein a size of the first interleaver is equal to a size of the second interleaver.
