Abstract: The present invention relates to a new method for creating nanopores in single layer molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanosheets (NSs) by the electrospray deposition (ESD) of silver ions on a water suspension of the former. Electrospray deposited silver ions react with the MoS2 NSs at the liquid-air interface resulting in Ag2S nanoparticles (NPs) which goes into the solution leaving the NSs with holes of 3-5 nm diameter. Specific reaction with the S of MoS2 NSs leads to Mo-rich edges. Such Mo-rich defects are highly efficient for the generation of active oxygen species such as H2O2, under visible light, which causes efficient disinfection of water. The holey MoS2 NSs shows 105 times higher efficiency in disinfection compared to normal MoS2 NSs. Developed a conceptual prototype and tested with multiple bacterial strains and a viral strain, demonstrating the utility of the method for practical applications.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of enhancing heat transfer of metallic surfaces by (1) fabricating hierarchical micro-nanostructured surfaces using etching processes, and (2) fabricating hydrophobic and hydrophilic regions, using a printing or a coating technique, followed by etching. The said method enhances the density of condensation sites over a metallic surface and additionally facilitates the departure of condensed droplets from the surface. Such a surface also enhances the sensible heat transfer characteristics, and improves the coefficient of performance (COP) of refrigeration systems for applications like atmospheric water generators, dehumidifiers, air conditioners, etc.

Abstract: A luminescent nanocomposite comprising functionalized graphene and a luminescent moiety, its fabrication, and uses are described. The luminescent moiety is anchored non-covalently to the functionalized graphene. Luminescence properties of the nanocomposite may be modulated by choosing appropriate luminescent moieties such as native lactoferrin, native lactoferrin protected gold clusters, and so forth. Mechanical properties of the nanocomposite may be modulated by adding a biopolymer such as Chitosan. The nanocomposite may be used as a luminescent ink for encoding information, or a luminescent film for tagging articles of manufacture such as electronic waste components.

Abstract: A composition includes a quantum cluster of Agm or Aun, one or more protector molecules; and a molecular cavity partially or wholly surrounding the quantum cluster. A method for preparing the quantum clusters includes adding a first amount of glutathione to a gold salt, a silver salt, or a mixture thereof to form a mixture; adding a reducing agent to the mixture to form a precipitate; and mixing the precipitate with a second amount of glutathione and a cyclodextrin to form a composition. Devices are prepared from the quantum clusters, and the devices may be used in methods of authentication of articles.
