The printer has a transfer unit and a pair of heat fixing rollers which are brought into a withdrawn state, in a print stand-by state. Thus, the recording paper is out of contact with a photoconductive drum and a heat roll when the transfer unit and heat fixing rollers are in their withdrawn state. A pair of dust removing brushs are also brought into a withdrawn state in the print stand-by state so as to be out of contact with the recording paper.

Disclosed herein is a method for concentrating gold contained in a leach residue obtained in a copper hydrometallurgical process for recovering copper from a copper sulfide mineral to efficiently separate and recover gold from the leach residue. According to the method, a gold-bearing copper sulfide mineral is subjected to pressure leaching with sulfuric acid at a temperature higher than 102° C. and 112° C. or lower to obtain a leach residue, and the leach residue is subjected to flotation to separate it into a float fraction and a sink fraction. The float fraction obtained by flotation is desulfurized by heating at a temperature of 250 to 800° C. under an inert atmosphere to obtain a desulfurized product. The desulfurized product is subjected to oxidative roasting by heating at a temperature of 600 to 800° C. under an atmosphere of flowing oxygen or air to obtain an oxidatively-roasted product. The oxidatively-roasted product is dissolved in a sulfuric acid solution to obtain a copper solution, and a gold-bearing residue is separated and recovered from the copper solution.

A cascade scanning optical system which includes: a first laser scanning optical system having a first polygon mirror, provided with a plurality of first reflecting surfaces, for deflecting a first scanning laser beam to scan a part of a scanning surface to generate a first scanning line; a second laser scanning optical system having a second polygon mirror, provided with a plurality of second reflecting surfaces, for deflecting a second scanning laser beam to scan another part of the scanning surface to generate a second scanning line, wherein the first and second laser scanning optical systems are arranged so as to align the first scanning line with the second scanning line at a point of contact therebetween in a main scanning direction to form a single scanning line; means for measuring a degree of tilt of each of the plurality of first reflecting surfaces and the plurality of second reflecting surfaces; and means for determining combinations of the plurality of first reflecting surfaces with the plurality of second reflecting surfaces in accordance with results of measurements of the measuring means so that the single scanning line is formed by any one of the combinations while minimizing a phase difference between a first phase formed by degrees of tilt of the plurality of first reflecting surfaces and a second phase formed by degrees of tilt of the plurality of the second reflecting surfaces.

The original separation mechanism is pressed to an original pick-up roller, and is provided for separating one original, which contacts the original pick-up roller, from at least one following original. The original separation mechanism includes a unit body, and a friction member attached to the upper surface of a unit body, extending toward a downstream side of the feeding direction of the original so as to intersect the feed path at a predetermined angle, and having an upper surface with a prescribed friction coefficient. The original separation mechanism further includes a pair of supporting members attached to both sides of the unit body with respect to the friction member, and each formed of a spring material having an upper surface which extends so as to intersect the upper surface of the lower original guide member at a predetermined angle.
