    摘要: A non-food anti-microbial-adhesion and aggregation composition comprising a suitable carrier and an effective amount of an adhesion inhibitory fraction isolated from juice from berries of the Vaccinium plant genus. In an embodiment the anti-aggregation and adhesion fraction is isolated from cranberry juice. It is characterized as being polymeric and having a molecular weight ≧14,000; an elemental analysis of carbon 43-51%, hydrogen 4-5%, no nitrogen, no sulfur and no chlorine; a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) line spectrum as set forth in FIGS. 2A and 2B; and an ultraviolet spectrum with an absorption peak at 280 nm in neutral or acidic pH solution which is absent in alkali solutions. This fraction exhibits adhesion inhibitory activity against P fimbriated bacteria, oral bacteria and Helicobacter pylori.

Two specific fractions are provided: (a) polymeric material having a molecular weight≧12,000; and (b) proanthocyanidins-containing fraction.Thus, the invention provides methods of treating a subject against a viral infection; the method comprises providing said subject with at least one of the above isolated fractions in an amount effective to prevent production of a viral infection in said subject.A specific and preferred viral infection according to the invention is an influenza virus infection.
