Hybridization assay probes and amplification primers that selectively detect Lyme disease-associated Borrelia and distinguish those Borrelia from Borrelia hermsii are disclosed. Other hybridization probes selectively detect Borrelia hermsii and not Lyme disease-associated Borrelia are also described.
