    摘要: A portable, work prooducing apparatus is powered by a single cylinder, two-stroke, internal combustion engine made substantially from aluminum. An exhaust port defined through a wall of the cylinder has inserted therein a steel sleeve with dimensions smaller than the exhaust port to create an air gap between the sleeve and the walls of the exhaust port. A muffler is fastened directly to the cylinder at the exhaust port. Fastening of the muffler acts to press the flange of the sleeve against the exterior of the cylinder, thereby retaining the sleeve within the exhaust port without additional fasteners and creating a good seal with the muffler. The steel and air insulate very hot exhaust gases from the cylinder to prevent overheating of the air-cooled cylinder in the area around the exhaust port that causes premature failure of lubricant and wear of the engine components.

    摘要: An air and fuel induction system for a two cycle engine having two adjacent horizontal cylinders positioned aligned one above the other and each having a separate closed crankcase includes a single horizontally positioned carburetor having a single metering system for supplying an air and fuel mixture to both cylinders. An induction passageway for each cylinder connects between the carburetor and each crankcase. Each induction passageway has an opening at about the same elevation and each opening has about the same cross sectional area. A reed valve is positioned adjacent the carburetor throat and at the entrance to each of the induction passageways. The reed valve includes at least one flat reed positioned directly across and closing the opening to each of the induction passageways.

    摘要: A system for controlling the movement of hydraulic fluid through the fluid containing chambers of a hydraulic cylinder operatively connected between a marine vessel and its outboard drive unit includes valves disposed within the cylinder to restrict the flow of fluid between the fluid chambers and a bypass for allowing unrestricted flow of fluid between the fluid chambers. The system includes a trim valve to allow limited flow of fluid in a first direction of piston movement and a tilt valve to allow unrestricted flow of fluid between the fluid chamber of the cylinder. A velocity sensing valve is provided to sense and prevent rapid upward movement of the drive unit.

    摘要: A recoil starter mechanism (10) mounted in axial alignment with the flywheel (12) of an internal combustion engine has a drive plate (16) with clutch teeth (34) which moves axially when rotated to engage clutch teeth (17) on the flywheel and rotate the flywheel (12) to start the engine. The drive plate (16) is driven axially and rotationally by ramps (30) on the starter pulley (14) when the starter rope (24) is pulled. A brake plate (18) frictionally engaging the starter housing (13) has arms (37) engaging the drive plate to resist rotation of the drive plate (16), thereby forcing the drive plate to move axially as the starter pulley (14) is rotated.
