摘要： An underground boring apparatus including a forwardmost boring head is disclosed herein along with a particular technique for guiding the boring head through the earth along both linear and non-linear paths. In a specific embodiment, the apparatus utilizes an elongated shaft arrangement supporting the boring head at its front end and a tubular housing supporting an intermediate segment of said shaft arrangement for pivotal movement about one of a number of different axes whereby to cause the boring head to pivot relative to the housing. An arrangement of piston/cylinder units is disposed within the housing for pivoting the shaft arrangement in a controlled fashion whereby to determine the direction of movement of the boring head through the earth. This arrangement of piston/cylinder units not only serves to maintain the shaft arrangement and boring head in a pivoted position for causing the latter to move in a curved path, but also serves to maintain the shaft arrangement and boring head in coaxial relationship with the tubular housing for causing the boring head to follow a straight line path.

One embodiment of a computer system includes a computer cabinet having an air inlet spaced apart from an air outlet. The computer system also includes heat exchangers positioned in the computer cabinet, and a heat removal system in fluid communication with the heat exchangers. The computer system additionally includes at least one sensor for monitoring heat transfer between the computer cabinet and the room. The computer system further includes a control system operatively coupled to the at least one sensor, the control system including a computer-readable medium holding instructions for determining whether heat transfer between the computer cabinet and the room is balanced based on information from the sensor, and if not, adjusting a parameter to balance the heat transfer.

摘要： A cable following apparatus has a rotating annulus at the front portion of its main body where a cylindrical axial opening of the body passing over a cable first comes in contact with concentric neutral wires. The annulus, by rotating in the direction of the neutral wrapping wires, has the effect of wrapping down any wires that are broken. Further, a helical groove in the annulus extends forward beyond a static cutter plate providing a front surface of the main body. The end of the groove rotates slightly behind the static cutting surface of the plate. Wires that are broken and pulled away from the cable are picked up by the groove and carried to a position where they are cut off by the force of the side of the helical groove pressing them against the static cutter surface of the plate.

摘要： Flow conditioners for use with air inlets on computer cabinets are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a large computer system includes a plurality of computer cabinets arranged in close proximity to each other. Each of the computer cabinets can include a fan, impellor, or other air mover positioned proximate to an inlet that receives cooling air from a plenum, such as a floor plenum. In this embodiment, a flow conditioner configured in accordance with the present invention can be positioned proximate to the air inlet. The flow conditioner can include a vortex diffuser and a flow-speed normalizer. The flow-speed normalizer can include a perforated screen that forms a cylinder around the inlet, and the vortex diffuser can include one or more vanes that extend across the cylinder adjacent to the inlet.

摘要： An improved cable following apparatus especially suitable for use in replacing an existing underground cable is disclosed herein. This apparatus utilizes a telescopically configured main body disposed around a cable in question and front and rear cable gripping mechanisms which alternatively grip the cable so as to cause the telescopic body to slide along the latter in a forward direction. The cable following apparatus also includes a technique for releasing both of the gripping mechanisms from the cable at the same time in order to be able to pull the entire apparatus rearwardly in the event it becomes necessary or desirable to do so.
