An in-the-ear hearing aid has a housing with an audio input end and an audio output end. The housing is formed of two sections which are coupled together along a seam which extends between the two ends. An elastomeric sheath can enclose the housing.

Abstract:
A hearing aid that generally provides greater amplification for speech signals than noise signals. The hearing aid includes a microphone, variable highpass filter, transducer, and sensor assembly. The sensor assembly detects the amplitude of a band of low frequencies of the highpass filtered microphone signal, and provides a feedback signal to the variable filter to influence its cutoff frequency based on the characterisics of the highpass filtered microphone signal. The sensor also takes the time characteristics of the signal envelope into account, distinguishing between steady state noise-like signals and dynamically varying signals, such as speech. In response to loud, low frequency, substantially steady state signals, above a threshold amplitude, the sensor provides a feedback signal to the variable filter such that the cutoff frequency is raised. In response to softer, and/or higher frequency, and/or more dynamically amplitude varying signals, the cutoff frequency of the variable filter is raised less or left at a lower value.
Abstract:
A hearing aid that is compact and efficient and that provides a high degree of control over its frequency response and also over its output level versus input level characteristic. The frequency response control includes an adjustable four pole high pass filter and an adjustable four pole low pass filter, to define the pass band, and an adjustable slope filter, to define the slope within the pass band. The control over the output level versus input level characteristic includes an input AGC system with well defined, independent control of compression threshold and compression ratio, an adjustable peak clipper, and a selectable output AGC system that tracks the peak clipper setting. The hearing aid incorporates a number of novel circuits including a state variable filter with adjustable corner frequency, a filter that can be continuously adjusted from a single pole low pass characteristic to a single pole high pass characteristic, a circuit to provide a range of reference voltages to accurately set the range of control currents used to control the corner frequencies of the state variable filters, a compansion system surrounding the filter network to effectively increase its limited dynamic range, a differential voltage threshold detector, a differential voltage controlled current source with an exponential relationship of output current to differential input voltage, an adjustable clipping circuit, a voltage clamp to prevent voltage excursions from going substantially below a substrate voltage, and bias compensation circuit to supply the input bias current of a transistor.

An improved compansion system that more effectively increases the dynamic range of other circuit elements. The system includes both a compression circuit to limit the input signal amplitude for a circuit element, such as a filter, and an expansion circuit to receive and modify the output of the circuit element. The expansion circuit restores a substantially linear input-output amplitude relationship and may prevent substantial overloading in the circuit element, thereby increasing the dynamic range of the circuit element.

An adjustable drop nipple for sprinkler heads is disclosed which comprises a stationarily mounted collar with internal threads that receives an externally threaded nipple, and whereupon rotating the nipple a portion of its length is caused to retract into the collar or extend from it, depending on the direction of rotation, in order to precisely regulate vertical elevation of a sprinkler head attached to the lower end of the nipple. An effective seal against leakage of water is achieved by use of one or more O-rings on the nipple which abut a smooth bore section inside the collar.
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for detecting the speed and/or location of a moving object within a target area are disclosed. A pitch speed measurement and strike zone detection apparatus in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention may include a support frame configured to support a pair of reflective surfaces on either side of a target area. A light source and receiver configured to direct a light beam back and forth between the reflective surfaces can be used to form a light curtain that detects when an object passes through a particular location within the target area. Multiple light sources and receivers may be employed to measure the speed of the object, and to determine whether the object passes through a particular strike zone. The device may include an adjustment mechanism and self-alignment laser to reposition the reflective surfaces, as necessary.

A system for converting first code information to second code information including memory means for storing a first conversion table and a second conversion table, means for receiving SIC, MCC and NAICS cod information about a merchant, means for using the first conversion table to convert the SIC, MCC or NAICS code information into a an intermediate code and means for using the second conversion table to convert the intermediate code into SIC, MCC or NAICS code information. The system may also include means for combining the SIC, MCC or NAICS code information with other information and providing a report based on the other information, means for linking incoming transaction data to a customer account and means for generating a report including the SIC, MCC or NAICS code information.

In general, the PBVT structure provides an effective method of filtering a stream of hardware generated prefetches by eliminating prefetch addresses that have proven to be inaccurate in the past. When compared to a design that uses a PFB of equal number of entries, the PBVT along with a small PFB provides virtually equivalent prefetch accuracy and miss rate reduction while using much less hardware area (97% less data storage space for a 1024-entry PFB case).

A bias current compensator to supply the input bias current of a transistor. The bias current compensator may be used, for example, with the controlled amplifiers used in an automatic gain control system. The bias current compensator prevents bias current changes, caused by a varying control signal, from appearing in the output of the controlled amplifier. The bias current compensator includes a current source, first, second, and third transistors, and a feedback amplifier.
