Abstract:
Systems, method, and computer program products for provisioning video and data services using a deep modulation Converged Cable Access Platform (CCAP) architecture in a traditional Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC) network are described. The deep-modulation CCAP architecture includes a remote conversion unit (e.g., that includes one or more modulators and demodulators to perform signal modulation and demodulation) connected to a CCAP core through a digital optical medium (e.g., an optical fiber) to achieve higher network capacity as well as cost and power consumption reduction.
Abstract:
In example embodiments of systems and methods of outside plant transport gateway provided herein, instead of locating the gateway/media converter inside the customer premises, the gateway/media converter is located outside the customer premises and may be configured to provide access/media conversion for multiple homes. In previous systems, the gateway/media converter is located in the customer premises. However, the customer premises must be entered to perform maintenance or other work. Moving the gateway/router outside of the customer premises offers easier maintenance at the gateway level.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for providing broadband services having dynamic resource allocation are described herein. Example embodiments of the systems involve communication of information between one or more of content provider server(s), a backbone data communication network, a telecommunication service provider broadband distribution network, and one or more subscriber interface device(s) that allocate resources upon request in connection with the delivery of a broadband service. Each device along a data communication path between a service requesting subscriber interface device and content provider server may be enabled for and uses the Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP). During operation, a subscriber interface device (including a set top box or cable modem) may communicate an RSVP reservation message to the content provider server via the path causing various devices along the path to dynamically reserve resources (including, without limitation, bandwidth) and set priority information based upon the requirements for and characteristics of a data flow(s) needed for delivery of the broadband service.
Abstract:
An electronic device includes a processor configured to run a plurality of applications, a power supply coupled to the processor, and a database coupled to the processor The database is configured to store information identifying each of the plurality of applications as being in either a first set of applications or a second set of applications. The processor monitors the power level of the power supply and is configured to disable the first set of applications when the power level reaches a predetermined power level.
Abstract:
Providing a dynamic bandwidth increase using at least one token bucket is disclosed. At least one token bucket is pre-loaded to capacity using PCMM commands to dynamically implement speed increases in the network. By pre-loading the at least one token bucket to capacity, the rate cap assigned to the customer is overridden. When the token bucket is exhausted the customer continues at their provisioned rate cap. Only a configuration file has to be changed to implement the temporary bandwidth increase. The token buckets may be implemented on a per service flow basis. Further, a plurality of token buckets may be provided, wherein a first token bucket is configured to control a total burst size and a second token bucket is configured to control an individual flow burst rate up until the first token bucket is depleted.
Abstract:
A telecommunications network capacity planning system. The telecommunications network capacity planning system includes a telecommunications network including a telecommunications services provider, subscribers and a network coupling the telecommunications services provider and the subscribers for provisioning of the telecommunications services. A database system is used for collecting and storing data at the user-level associated with provisioning of telecommunication services over the telecommunications network. A processor is coupled to the database system. The processor models the telecommunications network by generating upward projections from the stored user-level data and transforms the modeling of the network to a visual display of capacity information and network parameters for manipulation to evaluate capacity planning scenarios.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for routing broadband communications are provided. Downstream data to be communicated from a cable service provider head end system to a customer device may be received by a provider edge routing device. The downstream data may be mapped by the provider edge routing device to a physical address associated with the customer device, and the downstream data may be output by the provider edge routing device for communication to the customer device. A provider edge device separate from the provider edge routing device may receive the output downstream data. Based at least in part upon the physical address, the provider edge device may determine a port for outputting the downstream data, and the provider edge device may output the downstream data on the determined port.
Abstract:
A secure mechanism for third party hosted services to communicate with networks to allow dynamic quality of service to be provisioned for content of the third parties is disclosed. By authenticating the third party hosted services, the service provider is able to enter into business arrangements to share revenue with the third party content providers based on the premium service. A subscriber issues a request to a third party server. In response to issuing the request to the third party server, a dynamic quality of service request is received from the third party server. The dynamic quality of service request is validated and a session is provisioned between the client and the third party server implementing the requested dynamic quality of service.
Abstract:
A self-contained sampling probe characterized by a drive module and a syringe module removably coupled coaxially to the drive module to allow for different syringe modules to be interchangeably coupled to the drive module. The coupling is effected by quick connect and disconnect devices, and the syringe module may carry an identifier. The probe is engageable by a gripper or insertable in an interface device, both of which provide for communication of the probe with other system components.
Abstract:
Presentation of advanced content items is selectively suspended and/or activated so as to manage system resources. In some embodiments, plug-in code is selectively activated based on prioritization schemes and responsive to resource usage, user input, and/or other conditions. For example, plug-in code can be selectively suspended when the advanced content being presented by the plug-in code is not in view (for example, if it has been scrolled off the screen); when the advanced content is brought into view, for example as a result of scrolling, the plug-in code is reactivated as appropriate and the presentation of the advanced content resumes. State information for suspended plug-ins can be stored so that upon reactivation, plug-in code resumes operation substantially where it left off.
