摘要: The invention provides a method of alleviating the effects of stress in a non-human animal comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of a corticosteroid, such as dexamethasone, alone or in conjunction with a nutritional supplement, to the animal in need thereof. The corticosteroid can be administered prior to exposure to the stress, during the stress, and/or following exposure to the stress. The administration of the corticosteroid in conjunction with a nutritional supplement provides synergistic effects in alleviating the effects of stress, particularly weight loss. The nutrient therapy comprises one or more sources of electrolytes providing each of sodium, potassium and magnesium; one or more sources of amino acids providing each of alanine, lysine, phenylalanine, methionine, threonine, leucine, isoleucine, valine, and glutamate; and a source of tryptophan. The combined administration appears to have a restorative effect.

摘要: A self-venting drain valve (10) is mounted on a wall (30) of a fluid container having a fluid hole (32) and a vent hole (34). The valve has a body (20) with a bore (38) therein. A first hole (44) and a second hole (46) extend into said bore coaxial with the fluid and vent holes respectively. A drain port (48) extends through the valve body opposite the first hole. An air vent opening (54) extends through the valve body, generally opposite, but slightly offset from the second hole. A rotatable spool (60) is mounted in the bore. The spool has a first ball portion (62) adjacent the fluid hole and a second ball portion (64) adjacent the vent hole. The first and second ball portions of the spool have fluid passages therethrough. In a first position, the fluid passages in the ball portions are disposed from the fluid and vent openings and the valve is closed. Movement of the spool to a second position, enables the fluid passage in the first ball portion of the spool to receive fluid, placing the container under slight negative pressure. Further movement of the spool to a third position, opens the fluid passage through the second ball portion of the spool and enables air to enter the container so it may readily drain.

摘要: The invention is directed to a microprocessor based system utilizing electromyographic sensor to monitor muscle force for lift training and exercise training. In the lift training embodiment the electrodes of the electromyographic sensor are secured to a belt so that they are located adjacent to the lower back of the user when wearing the belt. The lift training embodiment is also provided with a goniometer to measure lifting angle during training, which together with muscle force generated by the lower back is compared in the microprocessor to a programmed lifting parameters and if these parameters are exceeded the user is warned by and audible indicator. The lift trainer embodiment also periodically measures interelectrode impedance to insure actual usage. The exercise training embodiment has a bar graph display displaying muscle intensity and two light emitting diodes alerting a user when to contract or relax a monitored muscle group. The microprocessor is programmed with a exercise routine and alerts a user when the routine is to begin, the duration of muscle contraction and relaxation, and the repetitions required. During exercise the user can monitor muscle intensity from the bar graph display and or auditory feedback element. An alternate lift training systems comprises a belt mounted goniometer which is operatively coupled to a microprocessor having an electronic memory for time logging a lifting session. To insure actual usage the belt is also provided with temperature and/or motion sensors.

摘要: A self-locking retention system is provided for a composite rotor blade supported on a rotor hub. A radially extending, stud-like retention member is provided on the rotor hub. A composite thickness projects radially inwardly from the rotor blade and substantially surrounds the retention member. The composite thickness is woven in a pattern which grips the retention member in response to outward forces applied to the rotor blade and the woven composite thickness.
