摘要: A buffered fiber optic ribbon including at least one fiber optic ribbon, at least one cushioning material, and at least one buffer layer. In one embodiment, the buffer layer has a generally flat portion that contacts a portion of the fiber optic ribbon. In another embodiment, the cushioning material is disposed in at least two regions that are separated by a portion of the buffer layer. In other embodiments, the buffer layer generally inhibits the fiber optic ribbon from twisting within the buffer layer.

摘要: A fiber optic cable and methods for manufacturing the same the fiber optic cable including a fiber optic cable core, the fiber optic cable core includes at least one optical fiber and a separation layer. The separation layer generally surrounds the at least one optical fiber, and a cable jacket generally surrounds the separation layer. The cable jacket has an average shrinkage of about 2.0% or less during a cable jacket shrinkage test conducted at a temperature of 110° C. for 2 hours with the cable core removed. The low-shrink characteristic of the cable jacket preserves optical performance during, for example, temperature variations.

摘要: A composite cable for use in indoor or indoor/outdoor applications having a fiber optic core section includes at least one optical fiber. The composite cable includes a conductor and water blocking section, the conductor and water blocking section having a set of conductors providing mechanical strength and flame inhibiting characteristics to the composite cable. At least one interstice of the composite cable includes a water blocking member therein. An armor layer surrounds the conductor and water blocking section, and the armor layer is surrounded by a cable jacket with an interfacial zone defined therebetween. The interfacial zone includes a controlled bond layer so that during flame tests, as the jacket burns and forms a char barrier around the tape layer, the controlled bond layer supports the char barrier relative to the armor tape, thereby protecting the tape from flames and inhibiting the propagation of flame along the cable.

摘要: A composition that includes a hydrated inorganic filler and a polymer blend is disclosed. The polymer blend includes a polymerization or copolymerization product of one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers. In addition, the polymer blend includes an aliphatic polyketone. The incorporation of aliphatic polyketone with polyethylene based polymers or copolymers results in dramatic improvements in both drip resistance and char strength; moreover, the composition of the present invention can use reduced amounts of hydrated inorganic filler relative to conventional polyethylene based compositions. This reduction in the amount of hydrated filler is expected to lead to improvements in physical properties and extrudability not otherwise possible. These properties make the compositions of the present invention particularly useful as an outer layer for electrical wires, optical fibers, or cables containing at least one wire, optical fiber, or both.
