    摘要: A first process involves the partial electrodialysis of a dialkali metal salt of an aromatic hydroxycarboxylic acid or a dicarboxylic acid to produce the approximate monoalkali metal salt and the alkali metal hydroxide. The monoalkali metal salt is then treated with an acid such as a bisulfate to recover the aromatic hydroxycarboxylic acid or dicarboxylic acid. The resulting inorganic salt such as sodium sulfate may then be electrolyzed to sodium bisulfate and NaOH. A second process involves the electrodialysis at elevated temperatures of a (di)alkali metal salt of p-hydroxybenzoic acid produce free p-hydroxybenzoic acid and the alkali metal hydroxide. These are efficient and economical methods for recovering the acid and alkali metal hydroxide values, as well as the parent organic compound, from these dialkali metal salts.

    摘要: In an α-olefin manufacturing process by the oligomerization of ethylene using an iron complex of a diimine of a 2,6-diacylpyridine or a 2,6-pyridinecarboxaldehyde, in which certain substituted iminoaryl groups are present, less higher molecular weight unwanted products are produced when the diimine and/or its precursor arylamine does not have impurities with substitution on a second ortho position to the imino group. This leads to less fouling of the process apparatus and higher yields of desired α-olefins.

    摘要: Higher trialkylaluminum compounds may be made by forming α-olefin by oligomerizing ethylene using a transition metal containing catalyst, reacting the α-olefins formed with a lower trialkylaluminum compound to form higher trialkylaluminum compound(s) These may optionally be oxidized, as with oxygen, to form higher trialkoxyaluminum compound, which in turn may be hydrolyzed to α-alcohols. In one variation of the process lower α-olefins and higher (relatively) α-alcohols may be formed and isolated. Higher trialkylaluminum compounds and α-alcohols are useful as chemical intermediates, while lower α-olefins are useful as monomers for polyolefins.

    摘要: Removal of dissolved vanadium catalyst residues from .alpha.-olefin polymer solutions improves the heat stability of the polymer recovered therefrom. Vanadium residues are removed from .alpha.-olefin polymer solutions in inert solvents by contacting the solutions at 50.degree.-225.degree.C. with one or more active metals, either in their elemental form or as alloys, selected from alkali metals, aluminum, and zinc, and separating the solutions from vanadium residues precipitated thereby. The process can be carried out continuously by passing the polymer solution through a column containing the active metal.

    摘要: An ethylene oligomerization catalyst that oligmerizes ethylene to a series of α-olefins and that has a Schulz-Flory constant of about 0.75 to 0.995 produces a stream of α-olefins. This stream is then added to a vessel containing ethylene and a copolymerization catalyst that copolymerizes ethylene and α-olefins. The resulting branched polyethylene often has good processing properties. The good processing is presumably due to the presence of “long chain branching”. Such polymers are useful for films and other packaging materials, and for molding resins for molding parts such as industrial, automotive or electrical parts.

The copolymer, which often has a high Viscosity Index, may be used, for example, in a lubricant as the base oil or a viscosity index modifier. The polyolefin may also be a component of a lubricant additive, meant to be added to an already formulated lubricant to improve the lubricant's properties.
