    摘要: A photographic element, and coupler employed therein, comprises a photographic silver halide emulsion layer containing a yellow dye-forming coupler having a the general formula: ##STR1## wherein Z is a ballasted group which splits off on silver halide development which is of such size and configuration to render the coupler non-diffusible in photographic layers, prior to splitting off, andR.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each individually an alkyl or aryl group whose combined effect is to render the yellow dye formed on coupling sufficiently mobile to produce image smearing.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a silver halide photographic element comprising a dye-forming coupler of formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is selected from an alkyl group, an aryl group, a 5-10 membered heterocyclic group containing one or more O, N or S atoms, each of which groups is unsubstituted or substituted, or a substituted amino group;R.sup.2 is an unsubstituted alkyl group having a secondary or tertiary carbon atom attached to the oxygen atom;X is hydrogen or a coupling-off group; andR.sup.3 is a substituent and n is 0 to 4; orwherein R.sup.2, as defined above, and an R.sup.3 substituent may together with the O atom form a 5-10 membered heterocyclic group which may contain one or more further heteroatoms selected from O, N and S, said group being unsubstituted or substituted; andwherein at least one of R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 separately or in combination constitutes a ballast group,the couplers providing enhanced light stability together with acceptable dye hue in images produced from photographic materials containing them.

    摘要: The invention provides a photographic element comprising at least one light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer having associated therewith: (A) a phenolic cyan dye-forming narrow bandwidth “NB coupler”; (B) a phenolic cyan dye-forming coupler of formula (II): wherein: R3 is an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl or aryl group or a 5-10 membered heterocyclic ring which contains one or more heteroatoms selected from nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur, which ring is unsubstituted or substituted; R4 is an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl group; R5 is hydrogen, halogen or an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl or aryl group or a 5-10 membered heterocyclic ring which contains one or more heteroatoms selected from nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur, which ring is unsubstituted or substituted; and Z is a hydrogen atom or a group which can be split off by the reaction of the coupler with an oxidized color-developing agent; and (C) a stabilizer of formula (III) wherein: each Y is an independently selected substituent and m is 0 to 4; and each T is an independently selected substituent and p is 0 to 4. Preferably the element has associated therewith one or more high-boiling solvents of formula (IV) wherein: R1 is an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl or aryl group; and G is an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl group.

    摘要: A method of making a polymeric compound, comprising discrete particles responsive to an external stimulus, that is resistant to aggregation in high-shear fields, which includes the addition of a polymerization initiator to a reaction mixture comprising a monomer corresponding to the polymeric compound, wherein the method comprises the portion-wise addition of aliquots of a cross-linking agent to the reaction mixture, wherein an aliquot of the cross-linking agent is added to the reaction mixture both before the addition of the polymerization initiator and after the polymerization has progressed substantially to completion. The polymer particles are largely immune to the effects of transient shear rates at least as high as 106 s−1, whilst maintaining their thermal responsiveness and being present at moderate concentration. The structural and chemical modifications brought by the delayed portion-wise addition of the cross-linking agent allow an improvement in stability in a high-shear field.

Such surfactants offer coating and photographic property advantages when incorporated in multilayer photographic materials comprising a support bearing a plurality of hydrophilic colloid layers.
