    摘要: A vehicle fuel system has an electronic control module received within a fuel tank to send data to and receive data from the electronic control unit (ECU) for the vehicle engine and other vehicle control systems, to provide an electronic control of the vehicle fuel system and to receive signals from one or more sensors mounted within the fuel tank which provide information about the operation of the fuel system. The fuel system integrates a plurality of components into the vehicle fuel tank to reduce the number of openings through the vehicle fuel tank and the number of external connections which must be made in assembly of the fuel system into a vehicle. By disposing a fuel vapor canister within the fuel tank, each vapor vent valve within the fuel tank can communicate completely within the tank with the vapor canister with a single outlet extending from the fuel tank to communicate fuel vapor from the canister with an intake manifold of the engine. Desirably, this outlet may extend through the same opening in the fuel tank through which the fuel pump, vapor canister, electronic control module and other components of the vehicle fuel system are inserted into the fuel tank. Notably, the number of openings in the tank is reduced and in one embodiment, only two openings are used in the tank, one for a fill pipe through which fuel is introduced into the tank and the other for the insertion of the various fuel system components into the tank.

    摘要: An engine fuel apparatus has a fuel and air mixing passage through which a rich fuel and air mixture is provided to an engine to support the operation of the engine at idle and low speed, low load engine operation, and a pressurized fuel delivery passage provides liquid fuel to a downstream fuel injector for operation of the engine at high load, high speed and wide open throttle engine operating conditions. A shut-off valve prevents the flow of fuel to the mixing passage when a throttle valve therein, which controls engine operation, is opened a predetermined amount from idle to prevent the flow of the fuel into the mixing passage at high load and/or high speed engine operation. Another shut-off valve prevents the flow of pressurized fuel to the downstream fuel injector device when the throttle valve is between idle and a predetermined position off of idle to prevent the flow of pressurized fuel to the fuel injector device under low speed, low load engine operation. Desirably, a camshaft rotated in response to rotation of the throttle valve is used to actuate both shut-off valves.

    摘要: An in-tank fuel pump reservoir assembly for drawing fuel from a fuel supply tank and discharging the fuel under pressure to an engine. The assembly includes a reservoir canister that partially defines a reservoir chamber and is mounted within a fuel tank. A reservoir inlet admits fluid into the reservoir chamber from the fuel tank. A reservoir outlet allows fuel to flow from the reservoir chamber to an engine through a fuel line. A reservoir filling device draws fuel into the reservoir chamber from the fuel supply tank through the reservoir inlet. A fuel pump assembly disposed within the canister draws fuel from the reservoir chamber and discharges at least a portion of that fuel to the engine through the reservoir outlet. A modular fuel delivery pod includes the fuel pump assembly, the reservoir filling device, and the inlet check valve. The pod connects to the canister to cooperatively define the reservoir chamber. The assembly is readily adaptable to multiple fuel tank applications by selecting respective canisters and fuel pump assemblies that are compatible with such applications.

    摘要: A fuel pump module constructed to be disposed exteriorly of a vehicle fuel tank carries, as a single unit, an electric motor fuel pump and a pressure control device which controls the pressure of fuel delivered to an internal combustion engine from the fuel pump. Fuel supplied from the fuel tank to the module is drawn into the fuel pump which increases the pressure of the fuel and then discharges the fuel under pressure from an outlet of the fuel pump which communicates with the pressure control device carried by the module and an outlet of the module which in turn, communicates with the engine. The pressure control device may be either a pressure relief valve, which functions to limit the maximum pressure of the fuel delivered to the engine, or a fuel pressure regulator, such as a bypass pressure regulator, which bypasses to a point upstream of the fuel pump inlet fuel delivered from the fuel pump in excess of the engine's fuel demand. Mounting the pressure control device and fuel pump in a common module reduces the number of fuel lines in the fuel system and avoids the problems associated with return fuel systems which return heated, excess fuel from a hot fuel rail. Desirably, a fuel filter is provided at the fuel pump inlet and a foam shell is also disposed in the fuel pump module to reduce sloshing of the fuel and vibrations in the module and to permit a module to securely carry fuel pumps of different size. Thus, the fuel pump module according to this invention is versatile, compact and readily assembled into a wide variety of fuel systems.

    摘要: An electric motor and fuel pump assembly with a housing having generally opposed ends with an electric motor within the housing having an armature with an axial commutator adjacent one end of the armature and one end of the housing. A fuel pump is positioned adjacent another end of the housing and the armature and is operably connected to the armature for being driven by the electric motor. A carrier within the housing has guides slidably receiving axially elongate brushes disposed generally parallel to the armature axis with ends contacting the commutator. Each brush is biased generally axially into contact with the commutator by a torsional spring with a coiled body having an axis generally transverse to the axis of the armature to decrease the overall axial length of the pump assembly. Preferably an end cover of the housing overlies and encloses the springs and brushes and preferably has an outlet port laterally offset from the brushes and within the outer periphery of the end cover to further decrease the overall axial length of the fuel pump assembly. Preferably electrical connector blades extend through the end cover and are laterally offset from and axially overlap in electrical connection with the brushes for supplying current to the motor.
