Abstract: The present invention relates to a monitoring information providing device and method which provide more information regarding a patient's physiological signs in real-time, in particular in case of a drug administration to the patient. The proposed device comprises a patient data input for obtaining patient data of a monitored patient, a drug identification input for obtaining drug administration data identifying a drug administered to the patient and the time of administration of the drug to the patient, a drug information input for obtaining drug information of the identified drug, said drug information including drug side effects and/or drug-drug interactions and/or drug-disease contraindications, a processing unit for determining time-resolved monitoring information based on the obtained patient data, drug administration data and drug information, said monitoring information being dynamically adapted and indicating one or more physiological signs of the patient that are most critical to monitor over time, and an output interface for outputting said monitoring information.

Abstract: The invention relates to determining a representation of cardiac output in a patient. Provided are a method and a system for monitoring a cardiac output using a single device inserted into a Central Venous Catheter (CVC) or Peripheral Inserted Central Catheters (PICC) line. In an embodiment, the device contains an elongated body that fits the lumen of a Central Venous Cava or Peripheral Inserted Central Catheters line and has an ultrasound transducer at the tip. By operating the device such that the velocity in both the Superior Vena Cava and Inferior Vena Cava can be sampled continuously the CO is monitored.

Abstract: Devices, systems and methods for pulse wave velocity determination using intravascular pressure measurement and external ultrasound imaging are disclosed. An apparatus for pulse wave velocity (PWV) determination includes an intravascular device sized and shaped for positioning within the vessel, the intravascular device including a flexible elongate member and a pressure sensor, the pressure sensor configured to monitor a pressure of a fluid within the vessel; an imaging device configured to monitor a velocity of the fluid within the vessel, the imaging device including an external ultrasound transducer configured for positioning proximate to a body portion including the vessel; and a processing system in communication with the intravascular device and the imaging device, the processing system configured to: synchronize the monitoring of the pressure within the vessel by the pressure sensor with the monitoring of the velocity within the vessel by the imaging device; and determine the pulse wave velocity of the fluid within the vessel based on the pressure and the velocity within the vessel.

Abstract: There is provided a method of assessing the reliability of a measurement of blood pressure of a subject, the method in a control unit of an apparatus comprising obtaining a first measurement of at least one physiological characteristic of the subject that is indicative of the level of pain and/or stress of the subject, wherein the first measurement is made prior to a measurement of blood pressure being made; obtaining the measurement of blood pressure of the subject; obtaining a second measurement of the at least one physiological characteristic of the subject, wherein the second measurement is made after the measurement of blood pressure is made and prior to a subsequent measurement of blood pressure being made; and determining if the measurement of blood pressure is reliable based on the first measurement and the second measurement, wherein the measurement of blood pressure is determined to be reliable if the first measurement and the second measurement indicate a low level of pain and/or stress. A corresponding apparatus that implements the method is also provided.
